POLL LOOKS AT REMOVING GOD FROM MONEY

FITSNews – August 19, 2008 – Over three million people have voted in an NBC online poll seeking to determine whether or not we should take the phrase “In God We Trust” off of America’s money.

You can vote on the issue by clicking here if you’d like (so far it’s 60-40 against removing God), but our hunch is that God probably doesn’t want to be associated with a currency whose value is dropping like a friggin’ rock.

Seriously, people. There are grocery store coupons and monopoly money that are worth more than a U.S. dollar right about now.

The only reason I’m for removing the motto is for the same reason as President Theodore Roosevelt. Because currency frequently is used for immoral purposes (prostitution, gambling, etc.) we shouldn’t sully the name of God by having His name on the money used for immoral purposes.

However, I know that nearly all the people who want to remove the motto from currency want to do it for “freedom FROM religion” grounds. Just as these are the same people who want to remove “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance.

Whether or not it is a valid idea, their reasoning is wrong or at least offensive, so I’ll oppose them out of spite.
