So, now that you're done pontificating, your answer is "less government, lower taxes and fewer regulations? Did you get that input from the 3 people responding to your blog? As an owner of a trying to stay successful small business in SC, I want help fixing the broken unemployment commission that gives money to everyone with a hand out, or the worker's compensation program that lets my competitors run free without insurance so they can charge cheaper rates. Taxes aren't my problem.....not having a voice to represent my business is my problem. The government agencies we currently have are important because they attempt to create a fair, level playing field for us to succeed. Less government involvement or regulations opens the flood gates to disaster...a marketplace where only the most powerful survive. In my opinion, fixing the existing programs is the easiest answer and I think the SC Small Business Chamber of Commerce is attempting to do just that.

You got it right, Will. I, as a public official at the time, was invited to their first meeting. I was asked to speak and said what you said- small business needs nothing from government but to get the hell out of our way. I was not invited back.

Successful small business owners I know are very independent and don't want or need anything from the government. They would like lower taxes, but mostly just want to be left alone.
