MEET THE S.C. CHAMBER OF “MORE GOVERNMENT”

FITSNews – August 18, 2008 – In a state full of oxymoronic organizations, the S.C. “Small Business Chamber of Commerce” has to be at the top of the list. With its inflated ambulance chaser membership rolls and decidedly left-of-center policy bent, this sham of an advocacy group (founded by a former Democratic State Representative) has consistently supported the growth of state government at the expense of the small businesses it claims to represent.

Naturally, such a pro-government entity is enthusiastically endorsing the “Republican plan” to create more jobs in South Carolina, which in lieu of the tax cuts and regulatory relief that businesses actually need instead proposes three pillars of additional government.

Of course, this fraud of a group does have one caveat to make in endorsing our state’s latest experiment in central planning:

Let’s acknowledge that all the rest of our state’s small businesses are the fourth pillar for success and are just as deserving of a new state agency to lead them.

Hold up … South Carolina’s leading “small business advocate” believes that a shiny new government agency is all we need to fix our crappy employment situation and even crappier income situation? Are you kidding us?

We agree that helping out small businesses is absolutely essential if South Carolina ever expects to turn around its moribund economy, but “help” isn’t going to come from another army of worthless bureaucrats sucking up taxpayer money we don’t have. “Help” is less government, lower taxes and fewer regulations – and the fact that the “Small Business Chamber” is recommending precisely the opposite approach is further proof of its big government loyalties.

Mega dittos Will!! Too many small and large businesses around SC and the U.S. have been “duped” into believing the Chamber to be “their savior”. Thanks to “truthseekers and watchdogs” like yourself and other citizen’s groups, the “Shameber” shennanigas are being exposed.
Go Will!!

Successful small business owners I know are very independent and don’t want or need anything from the government. They would like lower taxes, but mostly just want to be left alone.

You got it right, Will. I, as a public official at the time, was invited to their first meeting. I was asked to speak and said what you said- small business needs nothing from government but to get the hell out of our way. I was not invited back.

So, now that you’re done pontificating, your answer is “less government, lower taxes and fewer regulations? Did you get that input from the 3 people responding to your blog? As an owner of a trying to stay successful small business in SC, I want help fixing the broken unemployment commission that gives money to everyone with a hand out, or the worker’s compensation program that lets my competitors run free without insurance so they can charge cheaper rates. Taxes aren’t my problem…..not having a voice to represent my business is my problem. The government agencies we currently have are important because they attempt to create a fair, level playing field for us to succeed. Less government involvement or regulations opens the flood gates to disaster…a marketplace where only the most powerful survive. In my opinion, fixing the existing programs is the easiest answer and I think the SC Small Business Chamber of Commerce is attempting to do just that.
