Round The Horn

WHAT’S UP ON THE WEB THIS WEEKEND?

FITSNews - August 16, 2008 - Since a nasty virus has infiltrated the FITSNews‘ compound this weekend, we figured we’d take this opportunity to point you in the direction of some interesting stuff happening on other websites this weekend … oh, and if anybody wants to order us a Ferris Bueller nurse, feel free …

BLOW LIKE HOOTIE - Our buds over at the Palmetto Scoop have a great story on S.C. Superintendent of Education Jim Rex’s latest PR distraction, which once again involves you not focusing on the fact that we have the worst public school system in America.

MANDE’S GOT A STALKER - Speaking of public education, our non-buds over at the aptly-named Not Very Bright continue to obsess over our girl Mande’s loquaciousness. Of course, they’ve been kind enough to dumb down her mellifluous prose so that ordinary South Carolinians can understand it.

HATER MUM - Keeping with the status quo theme, it’s been 48 hours and still no response from the state’s latest status quo blog after it was thoroughly “out-Goebbelsed” by Sic Willie.

MORE ON THE ACT - Earlier this week, we were the first website in the state to report on the underwhelming “improvement” made by South Carolina schools on the ACT exam. Today, there’s a great follow-up story on The Voice which thoroughly debunks the “Bullspin” coming out of our state’s Ministry of Failure and Non-Competition.

JUMPIN’ JASPER - Former gubernatorial chief of staff and GOP Senate nominee Tom Davis gives an update on the latest Jasper County port developments over on Brad Warthen’s Blog. Basically, it’s full speed ahead on the multi-billion dollar project … well, until Davis tells Warthen that at some point the S.C. Supreme Soviet will have to get involved with the issue. Which invariably means it will get effed up like everything else in this state.

Anyway … happy, happy weekend, people …

Just because you’re a lame douche with skin thinner than the ozone layer doesn’t mean that John has to respond to every one of your poorly-argued diatribes.

You are so confused. Mande’s prose is not “mellifluous.” It’s showy, ostentatious, grandiose, conspicuous, flamboyant, overblown, extravagant, ornate, fancy, gaudy, elaborate. Straight from my own thesaurus.
