The States Are Effed
… AND IT’S GETTING WORSE
FITSNews - August 1, 2008 - The economic situation for America’s various “United States” is shitty and getting shittier, people - including the outlook for our favorite little ass-backward upside-down triangle here on the coast (a.k.a. South Carolina).
Back in December of 2007, a total of thirteen states were facing $23 billion in combined shortfalls. This summer, the numbers have ballooned to twenty-nine states facing $48 billion in shortfalls.
After blowing over $2 billion in new spending the last four years, South Carolina is currently $100 million in the hole from the recently-ended budget year, and faces a $140 million deficit for the current budget year.
Of course, these numbers are chump change compared to America’s half-trillion dollar deficit (and $9 trillion debt), but it’s pretty clear that politicians all over the country spent money like it was going out of style the last few years, only to find the bottom fall out of the housing market and gas prices shoot through the stratosphere.
So yeah … we’re all basically effed, and will be even more effed when these same politicians inevitably start pushing for “revenue enhancements” that will create an additional drain on our economy.
