COBURN STILL FIGHTING MASSIVE “OMNIBUS”

FITSNews – July 28, 2008 - We’ve had some fun with MARTA buses lately (here and here), but another out-of-control bus is screeching toward unsuspecting taxpayers in Washington, D.C.

It’s called the “Coburn Omnibus,” a collection of some forty pieces of unnecessary spending legislation that have been successfully held up by Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn. To get around Coburn’s blockade of the bills, Senate Democrats have decided to lump them all together into one “Omnibus” bill, which they are attempting to shove through the U.S. Senate this afternoon.

Fortunately, both of South Carolina’s Republican Senators are opposing this boondoggle and the multi-billion dollar hole it would blow in an already deficit-ravaged federal budget.

Yet several Republicans – including Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch and this guy – are indicating that they plan on backing the bill.

Apparently not content with losing their majority thanks to wasteful spending, some Republicans are now eager to help the Dems blow even more of your cash at a time when taxpayers can least afford it.

If we had more politicians like Senator Coburn, Democrat or Republican, this country would be better off. He’s one of the few that came in with Sanford and stuck to his term limits pledge. His book, Breach of Trust: How Washington turns Outsiders into Insiders, has some interesting insights into what really goes on in Congress.
