COBURN WINS FIRST SKIRMISH AGAINST WASHINGTON’S BIG SPENDERS

FITSNews – July 28, 2008 – Perhaps today wasn’t the best day to try and shove a multi-billion dollar boondoggle down the throats of the American taxpayers. After all, it was just announced this morning that the federal deficit has magically jumped by $83 billion to nearly half a trillion dollars – which is a shit-ton of money in case you didn’t know.

For some reason, though, just a few hours after this announcement the Democratic leadership tried to ramrod a massive omnibus bill (or collection of unrelated spending bills) through the U.S. Senate over the objections of one Tom Coburn, who had been successfully blocking many of the individual bills in previous weeks.

Fortunately, the vote failed, which means that for today at least we won’t be flushing several billion dollars down the toilet on a bunch of useless crap oxymoronically-entitled the “Advancing America’s Priorities Act.” Tomorrow? Yeah it’s anybody’s guess.

Both South Carolina Senators voted against the bill, so be sure to blow them some kisses or something the next time you think about it.

Good for Tom Coburn….now we need the rest of the republicans to remember their past economic conservatism roots.
