How The Blogosphere Rolls
BIG PIMPIN’? OR BIG PONTIFICATIN’ …
FITSNews – July 25, 2008 – Let’s face it people, political bloggers are quickly becoming the celebrities of the new media.
Take our bud McLovin (pictured above w/ FITS gal Lindsey ), who earned himself some well-deserved fame earlier this month when he broke open a national scandal about South Carolina’s “so gay” tourism ads on his oft-frequented website, Palmetto Scoop.
But let’s ask the bigger question … are blogs like the Scoop, FITSNews and SC Hotline – all of which break news and generally lean to the right of the political spectrum – part of a national trend? Or are they exceptions to the rule in the budding world of online journalism?
According to an insightful piece of investigative journalism in today’s edition of The Politico , it would certainly appear that the latter is the case, as liberal bloggers at the national level are decisively beating down their conservative counterparts when it comes to winning the information war.
From the story:
While conservatives are devoting much of their Internet energy to analysis, their counterparts on the left are taking advantage of the rise of new media to create new institutions devoted to unearthing stories, putting new information into circulation and generally crowding the space traditionally taken by traditional media. And it almost always comes at the expense of GOP politicians.
While online Republicans chase the allure of punditry and commentary, Democrats and progressives are pursuing old-fashioned shoe-leather reporting.
True dat … as far as we can tell, most conservative websites are indeed “lone reeds” of the most reactionary and opinion-exclusive sort, typically spouting inane, incomprehensible drivel to audiences you can count on one hand.
Conversely, the left seems to have figured out that a much better way of getting your point across is by simply stating – or better yet, uncovering – a fact, image or video that has broader relevance than someone’s individual opinion.
Bottom line, Republicans are out there preaching their opinions to a diminishing choir, whereas Democrats are pushing news stories (tinged with opinion, of course) that are shaping the way politics is covered in this country.
As for our little ongoing experiment here at FITSNews, we like to think we’ve followed the left’s model – as has our bud McLovin at The Scoop .
But then again, given our proclivity for snapping anacondas and rapping Teletubbies, we could be wrong.

We like spouting “inane, incomprehensible drivel,” and you can count our audience on two hands.
Like today, I found some information about the health benefits of pork rinds and alcohol. It was a good day.

Looking closely at this horrific picture, it is apparent that Lindsey is puffing on a cigarette. (a Virginia Slim, perhaps?) Will, I guess we will be paying for your bloggers’ medical bills along with the other smokers.
However, Lindsey could smoke 10 packs a day and she still won’t beat her obese counterpart in a race to the hospital. Judging from that picture, it looks like he’ll be checking in to the obesity/”diabeetus” wing of Richland Memorial long before Lindsey’s breathing problems kick in.

Nah, Bo. Any website that features the mellifluous musings of Mary Claire is A-OK in our book.

Excellent point – in a super-red state like SC, us right-bloggers may be running with the ball, it’s the exception to the rule. In most places, the left-bloggers and associated new media types hold the upper hand.
As for Adam, the dude rocks. Chicks should dig this guy.
