DeMint, Graham Oppose Wasteful Omnibus
BOTH SOUTH CAROLINA SENATORS SAY THEY’LL BACK COBURN, TAXPAYERS
FITSNews – July 22, 2008 – U.S. Senators Jim DeMint and Lindsey Graham say they will support their colleague Tom Coburn’s efforts to protect the taxpayers by blocking a multi-billion dollar federal spending bill that the Democratic leadership is seeking to force through the U.S. Senate this week. We wrote earlier today about the so-called “Coburn Omnibus,” a collection of over three dozen wasteful spending bills which Democrats lumped together in a massive single bill after the Oklahoma Senator had successfully blocked them individually.
“Most of these are bills that Senator DeMint has joined Coburn in blocking,” said DeMint’s spokesman Wesley Denton, who added that his boss was “solidly behind” the defeat of the massive federal boondoggle and would join Coburn at a press conference tomorrow to discuss their reasons for opposing the measure.
Graham spokesman Wes Hickman also indicated his boss would oppose the bill, saying that “Senator Graham has very serious problems with the Coburn Omnibus.”
So do we … and so should any taxpayer. The fact that the federal government wants to shell out several billion dollars on this assortment of wasteful, repetitive and non-essential spending items at a time when American families and businesses are struggling to make ends meet is outrageous.
Props to both DeMint and Graham for siding with the taxpayers on this one, something that quite frankly neither party in Washington has done particularly well over the course of this decade … or ever really, for that matter.

What? Fiscal restraint from our elected leaders, including Graham and Demint? Color me skeptical.
This means only one thing- it must be nearing election time.
I wish these spendaholics would tell us specifically how they are going to balance the budget and pay for all their wars …because we all know this one bill is just the tip of the iceberg regarding our financial house of cards.
If our current deficit is over 9 trillion dollars now, anyone hazard a guess on what it will be in 4 years??
