How Low Can They Go, Pt. III
CONGRESSIONAL APPROVAL RATINGS CONTINUE TO PLUMMET … AND THE MEDIA ISN’T FAR BEHIND
FITSNews - July 21, 2008 - In case you haven’t noticed, we take great pleasure in covering the sinking approval ratings of the U.S. Congress. It’s not that we’re cynical anarchists or anything like that (editor’s note: we are ), we just think America’s steadily deteriorating support for its government is great excuse to post pictures of hot chicks doing the limbo (see here and here).
Anyway, according to a Gallup Poll taken last week, an astonishingly-low 14% of Americans currently approve of the job that Congress is doing - the lowest mark since Gallup started measuring it. Additionally, the percentage of Americans who think that Congress is doing a “good” or “excellent” job has slipped into single digits for the first time ever.
Of course, what really excites us is a new Rasmussen poll showing that the mainstream media isn’t faring much better than the politicians they cover. According to that poll, only 24% of Americans believe that the press will actually cover the 2008 presidential election fairly … and that poll was taken prior to today’s latest example of unfairness over at the New York Times .
Like we always ask our agenda-driven buddies in the local MSM, why not just admit that your coverage is “unfair and imbalanced?” It’s not like you have to stop being sanctimonious or anything …

Nah, that’s you being sanctimonious. No word yet about approval ratings for scuzzy convicted felons. Will pass those along once they come in.

I guess you turned to anarchy because it’s just too embarassing to admit that you’re a Republican these days.

Just remember that peoples’ attitudes about Congress tend to be bifurcated: the hate Congress (as an institution), but tend to love their individual Congressman/woman…..or at least like them better (or dislike them less) than Congress as a whole
While there are obvious exceptions (individual members of Congress with approval rating as low or lower than those of Congress)….this is true more often than it isn’t. Don’t make the mistake of generalizing about the individual based on characteristics of the aggregate (also known as the “ecological fallacy”).
