SOUTH CAROLINA’S GOVERNOR PART OF A “CHANGING” VICE PRESIDENTIAL FIELD

FITSNews - July 12, 2008 - When we say the Republican Vice Presidential field is “changing,” we’re not talking about names being added or deleted from the list … we’re talking about individual candidates changing their positions (and sometimes even their haircuts) to come off as more attractive VP prospects.

Alright, we’re not really talking about any of that, The Politico’s Ken Vogel is. But Vogel did talk to our editor Sic Willie, and Sic Willie talked about it, so maybe … you know, nevermind …

Anyway, part of Vogel’s article referenced some “changes” made by our own Gov. Mark Sanford since entering the VP spotlight. Specifically, he writes:

Meanwhile, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, a Republican recognized as a leading fiscal conservative, this year has taken more aggressive stances on social issues. He allowed a bill that created Christian “I believe” license plates to become law, signed legislation permitting the public posting of the Ten Commandments and the Lord’s Prayer, and signed another bill that required women seeking an abortion to first be told they can view an ultrasound of their fetus.

“Sanford’s never been a Republican who wears his social conservative values on his sleeve,” said Will Folks, a political consultant and blogger who worked as spokesman on Sanford’s 2002 gubernatorial campaign. “He went someplace that he probably wouldn’t have gone on those social issues were it not for the vice presidential speculation.”

The good news for Sanford is that people like Vogel (whose article got picked up by CBS) are still talking about him as a potential VP pick. The bad news is that Sic Willie continues to be entirely non-cooperative in that effort.

I tried to explain this to Palmetto Poop all spring, but Fogle didn’t get it. I was surprised that y’all at FITS didn’t react either. Oh well. I’m still hearing buzz around DC and the northeast that Mark is still seriously being considered.
Why, oh why, then, did Mark sign that ridiculous mini-version of our own S.C. amnesty? Publication on legit sites and publications will follow, but for now, check this out: http://shnv.blogspot.com/2008/07/fake-immigration-reform-in-south.html

Mark Sanford is a reform minded governor but absolutely has no business being second in line to run this country.

He HAD a great future, but allowed his immature, peevish approach to politics and his personal vendettas to absolutely ruin any chance for reform in SC.

His was an opportunity wasted. Most of us who want reform are patiently waiting for his second term to run out and then we can elect someone like Congressman Barrett to get the job done!

sic(k) willie “vulgarity” folks knows MarkieMark has no chance of getting picked for Veep. Besides, it would be meaningless.

Wow!

Did anyone see Sanford on CNN today?

Well, he may have been on McCain’s short list but I would bet that after that performance the only person pushing for a Sanford GOP VP pick, is Obama.

Hahahahaha, Mark Sanford gets punked by Wolf Blitzer today. Tell us where you bought that stutter, Marshall-my-man. Sanford at least tells the truth, McSame = Bush.
