Rick,

The unemployment rate has spiked over 1.4 percent since last October and is expected to go higher.

You noted "job loss will be across the board (Ronald Reagan 1980’s)"

Please note that the most recent increase in the jobless rate was the highest month to month increase since 1986 -

http://www.forbes.com/leadership/2008/06/24/salary-jobs-government-lead-cx_mk_0624bluecollar.html (article by Forbes Magazine that big banion of economic liberalism).

Also, you and Mande need to talk to those idiots on Wall Street and let them know the economy is going swimmingly despite thier party pooperism. (See article below Dow drops below 11,000 for first time in 2 years)

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080711/wall_street.html

And to top it all off the Candian dollar did for the first time in recent history (or ever?) go above the U.S. dollar - attrocious.

Lem'me guess these statistics and other facts which indicate a poor economy are just made up by stupid liberals?

Just another pearl in Mande's greatest hits of blissful ignorance.

Good Samaritan lawsuits
Obama's Neo-Slavery
Nothing to see here, move along, the economy is great

Just how stupid can you get, Mande? Keep trying, you haven't hit rock bottom yet.

This economy loses and gains jobs on a continuing basis. When a recession/depression really hits you'll know it. Interest rates will go sky high(+20% during Jimmy Caters regime), job loss will be across the board (Ronald Reagan 1980's), and losing your home will be the least of your worries. Losing a home...2 scenerio's....loss of a job due to illness/unforseen circumstances. Most likely, lack of intelligence by buying more than you can afford because the real estate agent told you to or your better half wants it. Most of the negative issues that happen to us can be traced directly to decisions we've made. So go ahead and shoot the messenger, the messege is still valid.

And McCain promptly threw Gramm under the Not So Straight Talk bus.

Our choice in November comes down to a boilerplate Marxist in a swanky suit and a grumpy old Democrat posing as a sometime Republican. Great.

Phil Gramm's main job since leaving public service has been with foreign bank UBS, in that time their stock has lost 70% of its value and they have been charged with a wide range of violations. He also is responsible for eliminating much of the regulatory oversight which may have prevented this mess in which we currently find ourselves.
While not fitting the definition of a recession, yet; the current economy in the US is causing problems for many people, even those who have been responsible with their finances. One and half million jobs lost in the last year is cause for "whining" Also McCain ahs already distanced himself from these remarks.

He is basically asting like the police officer on "South Park"
Nothing to see here folks, move along.
Nothing to see here folks, move along.

Once again, the deliberate ignorance of Mande's post is astounding.

This 'made up' economic hard times has just given poor people an extra reason to whine acting like losing a house is tougher now than is used to be or not be able to afford groceries is somehow more difficult than it used to be? Why becuase the media is hyping up a false economic hard times and probably fuding expense figures and the weak dollar just to make Bush look bad...Wha wha wha. Liberals make me sick!

It's good that the McCain team is coordinating their talking points, as John McCain's been talking about how the problems with the economy, gas prices, energy, et al, and his proposals to solve them, are 'mostly psychological', for months now.

Alternative energy? McCain will harness the power of the subconscious, store it in a science-contest-prize battery, and use it to power your new 'horseless carriage'.

Go McCain!

Amen, I work on the fringes of industry and what I see are a continued investment, expansion of business everywhere. With the price of all the commodities going up due to world demand, we can't help but feel that the economy is in trouble. The home mortgage market has it's debacle in the puzzle palaces in DC. With the call of the geniuses in the house and senate to loan money to anyone and everyone because it's our right to have what the joneses have...well the expected is happening. The oil market has its troubles in the idea that wind and solar will suffice. If the clowns in DC think that this was the way to go, why didn't they respond during Jimmy Carters regime? Why, because it doesn't work. Even now these same clowns are changing their positions on drilling. Another couple of increases and they realize it'll be open season on politicians. Theres little wrong with our economy that can't be fixed with a light hand. Drilling and R&D into alternative should go hand in hand. Nuclear Power instead of Coal. The answers are ther but the media moguls have a reason to lie...think about it.
