Obama Is Expensive

CANDIDATE’S PLANS WOULD COST $130 BILLION A YEAR, BUDGET ANALYSTS SAY

FITSNews - July 8, 2008 - We’ve discussed how expensive Barack Obama’s education plan is in the past, but it turns out the kabillions that the Democratic presidential nominee wants to shell out on our nation’s failing, non-competitive public education system is actually one of his less expensive proposals.

According to a Clinton-era budget analyst, Obama’s proposals to grow government by $130 billion a year (combined with a middle class tax cut of $80 billion a year) aren’t adding up with reality. Basically, they work in Obama’s speeches, just not anywhere else. From the LA Times :

“I don’t think it all adds up,” Isabel Sawhill, an official in President Clinton’s Office of Management and Budget, said of Obama’s spending plans.

“There will definitely need to be a recalibration of these proposals once someone is in office,” said Sawhill, now a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. “The fiscal situation just isn’t going to permit doing what Sen. Obama or anyone else would like …”

… Obama has said he would strengthen the nation’s bridges and dams ($6 billion a year), help make men better fathers ($50 million a year) and aid Iraqis displaced by the war ($2 billion in one-time spending). Last week, he pledged to give religious and community groups $500 million a year to provide summer education to low-income children.

Other proposals are more costly. Obama wants to extend health insurance to more people (part of a $65-billion-a-year health plan), develop cleaner energy sources ($15 billion a year), curb home foreclosures ($10 billion in one-time spending) and add $18 billion a year to education spending.

So basically Obama’s massive expansion of government is about as likely to happen as John McCain’s promise to balance the federal budget by 2013.

Hmmmm … there’s a Naked Eyes song we’re thinking of that seems to fit for both these guys …

While suturing a cut on the hand of a Texas Rancher whose hand had been caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually, the topic got around to Obama and his bid for the presidency.

The old rancher said, Well, ya know, Obama is a ‘post turtle’.

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked, ‘What is a post turtle’?

The old rancher said, When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a ‘post turtle’.

The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor’s face, so he continued to explain.

‘You know he didn’t get up there by himself, he sure as heck doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to do while he is up there and you just wonder what kind of an idiot put him there in the first place.’

Cicero:

Interesting thought from a great orator, but you’ve got your turtle names wrong. Has a more cogent discription of Dubya ever been written? And what kinds of idiots put him on the post twice?

Cicero: That just about says it all.

But, he will be President Obama to you within 125 days.

The fight ain’t over yet. Obama’s so busy kissing everyones butt that he’s pissing off his base. What would happen in Denver if enough of Obumas pals did an Obuma and flipped. Hillary girls, don’t forget now, Obuma’s counting on you. After all he’s a lawyer, it’s not what is right or wrong, no budgets to balance, just dream what could be and talk fast enough to confuse anyone with 2 brain cells. It’s worked so far…..

If I give you the numbers 10 and 4 and ask you if that adds up of course you are going to scratch your head. So maybe we should look at the whole equation:

130 billion in new programs - 130 billion spent in Iraq last year + 80 billion in tax cuts for the middle class - 80 billion in raised taxes for the richest 1% of our country = the same crushing budget deficit that we have now.

But at least we would be blowing our money on the common man and the future instead of on a few rich dudes and death.

Piepton,
I agree entirely.

The turtle up on the fence post is W.
Cheney put him up there so he could have a better view looking for Osama bin laden.

Let’s get out of Iraq and quit pissing away billions each week over there . The Iraqis want us out - so we won - lets come home.

The next bozo that comes along wanting to create democracy in the Middle East should be given another hit of LSD and put out to pasture.

Seems simple-get out of Iraq now- quit policing the world, and do away with the tax cuts for the super rich - then we can
waste money here at home on domestic programs that will not work .
