Rush Gets $400 Million Deal
THAT’S A LOT OF PAIN PILLS, PEOPLE
FITSNews - July 2, 2008 - Just as we’ve never listened to Don Imus, we’ve never listened to conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh before, either. We’re just not “radio people,” people. We get enough “talkie-talkie” in real life.
Apparently, a lot of other people do listen to the radio, though. Which is probably why Limbaugh just inked a $400 million deal to stay on the radio through 2016. From the Drudge Report:
The American broadcast industry is rocked, realigned and blasted into a new orbit, yet again, by Rush Limbaugh, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
In what is being described as an unprecedented radio contract, Limbaugh will keep his syndicated show on-the-air and e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e through 2016 with CLEAR CHANNEL and PREMIERE RADIO.
Already host of the most lucrative hours since radio’s inception, Limbaugh’s total package is valued north of $400 million, according to media insiders.
Yeah, but is it north of eleventy kabillion dollars? Because that’s the estimated value of our deal.

H; L. Mencken was obviously right: “A person never went broke underestimating the tastes of the American people.”

Isn’t it amazing what someone gets paid for working hard, building a brand and marketing that brand. Is this a great country or what?

Sic - when are you going to be on radio? I can see it now…wouldn’t your frenemies really be in a frenzy… LOL

you assface. Rush has been fighting for conservatism and limited government for 20 years. You are on the same team. Why be a jerk and pick on his medically related past problems with pain killers? You are such a jerk. Rush is the reason alternative media has been so successful. Just shut up

Assface? Thank you very much. And Natasha the answer is we have no idea. Sic Willie has done radio before, but there are some words they don’t allow, apparently.

You avoid actual questions. Why attack Rush? What don’t you like about him? Seriously, he’s the most effective champion of reducing the government and returning to conservative, responsible principles. Just curious why you seem to attack the “heroes” of the movement you are trying to advance…

Vivo El Rushbo!!!
……….
Sic Willie,
Radio would probably be a great venue for you as well:
–gift of gab
–overabundance of [presumably superior] opinions
–ego requiring multiple universes to house

He is a blowhard. He usd to rail on lawyers, until he needed one to defend him. He used to rail on drug addicts, until he became one. If this is the “leader” that the conservative movement looks to, no wonder the Republicans have screwed up the U.S. during the last 8 years.

Sic…… Your not missing much if you have’nt listened to Rush. There is a certain entertainment factor there, espec. if you can’t stand Libs. The fault in his show is that he never lets truth or fact get in the way of his rants. His ditto-droid listners /callers seem to all fall in to the 0 to 75 IQ cat. His call screener makes sure no one with any brains can question his halftruths.

Wow, so this is why the GOP can’t win anymore. People like “Blush” who claim to be “Conservatives” aren’t anything of the sort. What does FITSNews stand for that Rush doesn’t? What things does Rush stand for that make people so mad?
And it is beyond childish to keep talking about his prescription drug addiction. His doctor overdosed him on the new “non-habit-forming” drug Oxycotin, which obviously turned out to be one of the most habit forming drugs ever. Rush had/has unbearable back pain due to spinal disk issues. He’s not a junkie on the street, and kicking someone when they are down isn’t classy at all. It’s pathetic and childish.
You people are amazing. I want to know what terrible things you think Rush stands for that you feel it necessary to bash him. Grow up people. What a bunch of idiots.

James- That is beautiful. The Party of personal responsibility blames the Doctor that prescribed Rush and the pharmaceutical company that rushed a drug to market in the name of capitalism before knowing the full effects (they knew, don’t kid yourself) and at the same time limits and continues to fight to limit or abolish the rights of citizens injured by the mistakes of medical doctors or the rush to profit over health by drug companies. WOW. We sure don’t need any regulation of the pharma industry. We should just let the market works itself out. Take a bow, you have succeeded in having your head up your ass and in the clouds at the same time. We both know it doesn’t make scientific sense, but you just gotta have faith…

“we sure don’t need any regulation of the pharma industry. We should just let the market works itself out. ”
You’re right. We need to nationalize this industry. That worked so well in Europe. It is amazing how historically blind liberals are that they seem determined to repeat the mistakes of history. Of course, you convince yourself that they just didn’t get it quite right before, and with a little tinkering it will work.

I’m just curious how Clear Channel will make it back. I love Rush, and listen to his show all the time, but it’s basically hits the marketplace that one time, and that’s it. There’s no rerun market to speak of, no special editions or DVDs, very few places for Clear Channel to recoup its investment except on advertising rates for fresh episodes. And there’s not much wiggle room there, as Rush’s show has nationwide coverage and expanding terrestrial radio stations really can’t expand listernship . . . while Rush’s ratings may be improving, can it really justify the advertising rates that it will take for Clear Channel to make money on this deal? Well, I don’t know, but I hope so. Good for you, Rush.
