NEW TEST COULD HELP DETERMINE RISK FOR BREAST CANCER

FITSNews – June 26, 2008 – A simple mouth swab could help determine whether women are carrying any of seven genes which researchers have linked to breast cancer, according to tomorrow’s edition of the Sydney Morning Herald. Well, it’s actually today’s edition – because Sydney is in Australia, where it’s already tomorrow.

Anyway, from the story:

The researchers said women deemed high-risk could be advised to have regular mammograms or choose to have their breasts removed. Those not carrying any of the genes could wait until the age of 60 before having screening.

Whoa … cutting boobies off just because you’ve got a bad gene? That sounds sort of drastic to us. Of course, who are we to argue with “science,” what with its ability to turn fruit flies queer and everything.

Obviously, this is something that’s going to require some serious hands-on investigation by our founding editor, Sic Willie. After all, bringing you the latest in breast-related news (and warning you of potential scams) is very important to him.
