TELEVISION RATINGS SOAR FOR 2008 FINALS

FITSNews – June 5, 2008 – We could honestly give a rat’s ass about the Boston Celtics and whoever it is they’re playing in the National Ballers’ Association Finals this week (editor’s note: the Charlotte Hornets? ), but we were absolutely glued to the screen for this year’s Stanley Cup finals … which is hockey, by the way, for those of you residing in the Greater Oconee, S.C. area.

Evidently, we weren’t the only ones watching:

Television ratings for the decisive game of the Stanley Cup finals were double the last Game 6 in 2006.

The Detroit Red Wings’ clinching 3-2 victory Wednesday over the Pittsburgh Penguins drew a 4.4 overnight rating and a 7 share on NBC, the network said Thursday. The Game 6 between Edmonton and Carolina two years ago earned a 2.2.

“Ratings” equal the percentage watching a program among homes that have televisions, while “shares” equal the percentage tuned into the broadcast among those households with their televisions on at the time. We have no idea what any of that means (we just copied it from another website and changed a few words to avoid plagiarism), but we’re pretty sure it means that twice as many people watched this year’s hockey final as opposed to last year’s (which we covered here in case you’re interested).

The Stanley Cup (which comes with its own Lindsay Lohan, apparently) is by far the hardest trophy in all of sports to win, which is probably why despite having funny names, getting their teeth knocked in all the time and not being all that attractive to begin with, hockey players score more A-list celebrity kitty than all the other sports combined. Well, if you don’t count Poopie.
