Sanford Gets Fruity With The “Fruits Of The Spirit”

SOUTH CAROLINA’S GOVERNOR HAS SELECTIVE BIBLICAL RECALL

FITSNews – June 5, 2008 – We weren’t at all surprised that S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford chose to allow a controversial Christian license plate bill to become law last night – without his signature.

On the one hand, the governor didn’t want to offend evangelicals who support the “I BELIEVE” vehicle tags. On the other hand, he didn’t want to get pegged as the guy responsible for inviting the inevitable lawsuit that these tags will produce – or the guy responsible for the hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars which will be required to defend the state in that legal action.

So Sanford ended up doing what he all too frequently does when a firm stand is required on an issue – he took Door #3, the door of avoidance. From Charlotte’s WCNC:

“While I do, in fact, ‘believe’ — it is my personal view that the largest proclamation of one’s faith ought to be in how one lives one’s life. Galatians talks of the fruit of the spirit as peace, patience, kindness, gentleness and more — and, accordingly, if God is working in one’s life, these things will say what no license plate will ever say,” Sanford wrote.

Uhhh … okay, governor. You can put the snakes down and stop speaking in tongues. Oh, and perhaps you should go back and read the part of the Scriptures that talks about one’s “yes being yes” and one’s “no being no.” We’re not Biblical scholars or anything, but we’re pretty sure that “lukewarm” cop-outs are not looked upon favorably by the Son of our Lord.

In fact, we seem to recall him spitting those kinds of people out of his mouth.

Perhaps Luke Rankin and Larry Martin could give him a refresher course in Biblical knowledge?

Why in the world should we have any special notations on license plates? Whether it is the Hunley, SC State, pro-life or NASCAR, when did it become the function of state government to produce tags that reflect an individual’s boutique idea? I thought that was what bumper stickers were for!

Thinking about it, it is all that stupid wren’s fault. That tag was so ugly that people were desperate for anything else.

Will, I’m sorry you’re having a bad day. You get about a D+ today. Maybe you’ll do better Wednesday considering Rep Annette Young (your favorite, lol) and Randy Scott are going down in defeat.
