S.C. GOVERNOR SIGNS IMMIGRATION REFORM BILL

FITSNews – June 4, 2008 – S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford signed a “comprehensive immigration reform bill” into law this afternoon, putting the final pen stroke on a contentious issue that practically consumed the South Carolina Legislature for the past six months.

Just as we predicted prior to the start of this year’s legislative session, incumbent lawmakers used immigration reform (which technically doesn’t even fall under the state’s job description) to gloss over their abysmal record on economic development, education, public safety, health care, out-of-control spending … you name it.

And despite the fact that over 1,600 new “immigration reform” laws were passed at the state and local level last year, South Carolina’s reform package is said to be the “toughest in the nation.”

We’ll see about that when they actually try enforcing it … and we’ll also see what South Carolina’s “Republican” majority does next year without an ethnic minority to blame their pathetic performance on.
