RACE-BASED VOTING IRREGULARITIES REPORTED IN DEMOCRATIC HOUSE ELECTION

FITSNews – June 4, 2008 – Voting machine “malfunctions” in Marlboro County are steering ballots toward incumbent Democratic Representative Doug Jennings and against his primary challenger, Naim Sulahadeen (a.k.a. Floyd Quick), sources tell FITSNews. Additionally, these sources say that affidavits are being filed with state and federal election officials by residents claiming that their votes were incorrectly tabulated for Jennings after they attempted to vote for Sulahadeen.

State Election Commission executive director Marci Andino said her office was notified of the potential irregularities last week and contacted the Marlboro County Election Commission, which said that it tested the machines and assured her that they were working properly.

“This hasn’t been a problem in other counties, but if for some reason those machines aren’t working they need to take them out of circulation,” Andino said.

The issue has raised concerns on multiple levels owing to the fact that Rep. Jennings is a former Chairman of the Marlboro Election Commission and has appointed several of its members. Perhaps more troubling is the fact that the alleged irregularities appear to be more prevalent among African-American voters, prompting interest from the U.S Justice Department given the fact that Jennings is white and Sulahadeen is black.

Jennings’ reelection, which was a foregone conclusion months ago, has been thrown into question thanks to his unflinching support for a 900-acre “mega dump” in Marlboro County. The facility would be the largest of its kind in America, annually bringing 1.5 million tons of solid waste to Marlboro County.

Jennings is said to have personally brought representatives of the landfill company to the State Department of Health and Environmental Control, using his position to encourage them to start the permitting process.

“Marlboro County needs the money,” Jennings has repeatedly said in supporting the project.

Local residents have been extremely vocal in their opposition, however, which has formed the nucleus of Sulahadeen’s support.

Belvin Sweatt, one of the leaders of the anti-landfill movement, says he personally witnessed the machines malfunctioning when he took an elderly woman to the polls to help her cast her vote.

“When she pushed the review button, every choice of hers came up correctly except one – the machine said she voted for Jennings when she specifically voted for his opponent,” Sweatt said.

Sweatt said he would be willing to testify to what he saw, and added that he had heard numerous other reports of the machines showing votes for Jennings that were in fact cast for his opponent.

In the event the voting irregularities are confirmed, the state is powerless to impose any remedy on the local election commission.

“We don’t have any oversight over them,” Election Commission director Andino told FITSNews. “We create their ballots for them, but there’s no state oversight.”

Enter the U.S. Justice Department, which is tasked with investigating complaints of voter disenfranchisement, or in this case, allegations of votes being flat out reversed.

“We would be very interested in reviewing the affidavits,” a source at the Justice Department told us this afternoon.

Jennings told FITSNews in late 2007 that he was not going to seek reelection after a secretive whispering campaign was initiated against him last year.

Specifically, anonymous faxes and e-mails were sent to state legislators and select members of the media alleging that Jennings was involved in a homosexual affair with a WIS TV State House reporter.

At the time, several sources told us that former gubernatorial communications director Chris Drummond was behind the whispering campaign against Jennings, charges which Drummond has emphatically denied.

Law enforcement officials attempted on several occasions to trace the origin of the e-mails, but were unsuccessful.

“Whoever did it knew how to hide their tracks,” said one of the officials who investigated the e-mails.

By Voting Fraud is coming to SC on June 4th, 2008 at 2:45 pm

Get used to seeing more and more of these voting “irregularities” – South Carolina uses the I-votronic machines – which conveniently produce no paper trail for the voter to verify his vote was counted correctly.

So whoever has power over the “black box” machines can control the election.
Apparently using these machines is more expensive and there is no way to insure a correct vote total – the perfect method for SC politics.
We are all dumb enough to place all our voting confidence in a private company’s machines

I hope everyone can see the HBO movie just released called Recount – to understand the many ways elections are stolen.

I wonder why this has only happened to one person in the whole state, I’ve voted on this same machine and in the same office and none of my selections were changed. I wonder how this could be racially based when the Director of this county is a black woman. I think this is a case of ESO ( Equipment Smarter than Operator).

It didnt change when I voted for Mr Salahudeen/Quick … I guess I voted to soon and should have waited until after i read this…..

There may be a computer glitch because these machines can not process Mr. Jennings’ opponent’s name. I was unaware of the high turnout of Jihadist voters in the Pee Dee. Honestly, why is this “report” even being published? Jennings has this in a cake walk.

What was this fellow Sweatt doing in the booth with an elderly woman anyway? Shouldn’t a representative from the election’s commission be assisting her?

Anyway, what we have here, is FITS reporting a one-sided story based on information gathered from an individual who is clearly opposed to Rep. Jennings. Shocker…

As I understand it, several affidavids are being processed, not just one. I’m sure that an electronic machine can be programmed to automatically select every third or fourth vote to go toward a specific candidate total! Just hsppens, there are a majority of black voters in the area, at least at this point. I’m also sure not all of them checked to make sure the results were correct using the review feature. Gina & H.R. are obviously a Jennings supporter and that is her right. Regardless of who supports what candidate, elections are supposed to show the will of the people. If there is voter fraud and machine rigging still going on in Marlboro County, everyone connected should be punished to the full extent of the law! I applaud anyone willing to stand up to the possibility of injustice in the election system anywhere in this country and not be afraid of having their integrity challenged by those looking at life thru a thick blanket of wool! The citizens of Marlboro County have been bullied for far too long and it’s high time they have their voice back. It only takes one person to “catch” a rat. Where there is one, there are surely more. Maybe even an infestation. Politics in the South have long been riddled with suspicion and corruption. Why would this be surprising to anyone with even a little bit of intelligence? Jihadists????? Get real! Are you afraid to use a real name to back up your opinion?

By Mike on June 5th, 2008 at 8:52 am

By the way, H.R. Pufnstuff, Hillary Clinton had the nomination in the bag, too. Oh, I’m sorry, she must have been baking her entry for the “cake walk” you refer to so confidently instead of taking care of the people, taxpayers and ctizens that were voting!!!

By Raven James on June 5th, 2008 at 12:23 pm

Affidavids does not replace the fact of reviewing your ballot and simply selecting the back option <- on the page and correct the selection that your other finger accidently touched ( and thats simply what happened in this situation) when you were voting in other races on the ballot. If people would only read and ASK for help when you dont understand. I blame the VOTER AND MR SWEATT, if they saw it was not correct why didnt they ask a election official before they cast their vote, you always have a chance to go back and correct. I think this is soley a chance to get media exposure.

By Mike on June 5th, 2008 at 3:04 pm

If this was just a chance to get media exposure, do you think someone as upstanding as Mr. Sweatt would submit himself to the Justice Department or the ridicule of the willfully blind? Were you the election official that was consulted immediately and did you check the machine to be sure that is “simply” what happened? There is a lot of buzz going around about deceased people voting absentee over the years. Proven or not, the suspicion of corruption remains rampant in Marlboro County. By the way, a chance to get media exposure is what Mr. jennings lives by. I guess it’s OK for him whenever he chooses to use it? All is not peaches and cream in politics my friends!!! Many politicians cannot even spell Oath let alone abide by one. Political nature seems to be leaning toward taking care of one’s self, regardless of how it affects the people who put you in office. Voters obviously want to make a change that is overdue and want to have a fair opportunity to make that happen! If this “media exposure” does nothing more than prompt people to look at the final ballot, it was worth every word in print! This is assuming, of course, that the tally can be trusted (remember the Presidential Election and the Florida ballot issue)?

Wonder with all of this , Has anyone from this group who has made these accusations voted on the machine ? The question is was there any follow up or just accusations ?

By Mike on June 5th, 2008 at 6:45 pm

A member of the group was present at the time of the vote being cast and made immediate notification to the election officials. There is plenty of follow up but it is South Carolina, so we will see where it stalls this time.

By raven on June 6th, 2008 at 5:57 am

So noone elese checked it out ,Has the happened to anyone else ? Did the member of the group vote to ? Did theirs change also ?

By Belvin Sweatt on June 11th, 2008 at 9:27 am

I was asked by the “elderly” lady to drive her to vote absentee and she “asked” the attendent on duty if I could help her. There was “no trick” of hands while voting to cause a different name to come up. We brought the “problem’ to the attendents attention. She said, “hit go back”. The machine should have been shut down immediately. Later on when questions about machine problems were presented, people in elections office said “nothing” had happened with machines, even though others had had same problem.

By Lucky on June 25th, 2008 at 2:09 pm

Your no vote was heard, but now we have to sit and wait because the commitee has misrepresented themselves, you all claimed that the community and the entire county was behind you and look what happend only a few thousand voted, you intimadated more people than uou got support from. Blame yourselves if the dump comes not elected officals and public figures.

By Been there-done that on July 8th, 2008 at 9:09 pm

Dear Lucky
Bring the MEGADUMP to your county. By the way, in the June 10th primary, less than 5000 turned out to vote.
When almost 2400 returned to the polls on June 24th to vote NO, we thought we did good.
Are you suggesting that because of low voter turnout that the June 10th vote should not count also!

By Jim Watson on September 11th, 2008 at 12:25 am

Why is it that Doug Jenning’s homosexuality is like the big pink elephant in the room? I don’t care, but everyone knows so why the secrets and hide? I did not vote for a man who is not man enough to be himself. Keep hiding cause you aare only fooling yourself
