CLINTON PULLS OFF “PUERTO” PRIMARY WIN
FITSNews – June 2, 2008 – She may not have a snowball’s chance of becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, but that didn’t stop Hillary Clinton from winning the Puerto Rico primary over the weekend. From the LA Times:
Hillary Rodham Clinton chalked up an easy victory in Sunday’s Puerto Rico primary, a widely expected win that underscores the advantage she has enjoyed among Latino voters over Democratic rival Barack Obama.
Clinton trounced Obama 68% to 32%.
Wait a second … Puerto Ricans can vote? WTF? We thought they were an American colony – or “associated free state” to borrow the politically-correct terminology.
Actually, Puerto Ricans can only vote in the Democratic primary – they are still prohibited from voting in a general election … for now. Interestingly enough, Puerto Rico has sent more active duty American troops to Iraq and Afghanistan than any U.S State except for Nevada, which is just one of many things we learned about the colony … err, commonwealth … from this article.
Personally, we favor statehood for Puerto Rico – but only if the island agrees to change its name to “Puerto Rico Suave.”
