Man....Congratulations. You are the first person ever to make a pun out of my last name. You would think there would have been others. It always seemed obvious to me.

Roger, you may have a pulse, but your lack of brain wave activity concerns me. We don't need any more Club for Growth tools in Columbia and we sure don't need another Nut(t) in the Statehouse.

Thank you. Maybe too reasonable for Columbia, but we'll see. Dad is fine, enjoying retirement.

Sorry, baker. It's a nutthouse around here. Anyway, to answer your questions briefly, I am not familiar enough with Sanford's proposals (as they relate to school "choice") to give you a detailed answer. In general I will tell you that I am fundamentally opposed to supporting private schools with tax $ for two reasons : 1. I'm sure there will be many beliefs and policies that I don't agree with and have no control over that will have to be supported. 2. Once money starts flowing in that direction we (the state) will have to start regulating it and that will only add to the overhead and bureaucracy problem that we are already facing.
As far as tax credits, I think you are exactly right. There are some serious practical questions that need to be addressed and I will have to see a plan that will actually work in the real world (not just on paper) before I can support it. Every time government comes up with a new program it tends to underfund and under prepare for it. We need to look at some real changes that are well thought out and practical. I'm sorry I can't be any more specific than that. I'm just trying to give you my philosophy and where my guiding principles are.
I am also against the 1 school district proposal. I think there are many other problems we can tackle in Spartanburg County before this becomes an issue. Hope this helps.

Roger-

To you stand with Governor Sanford on being an idiot? Does the fact that he's an idiot make you more or less likely to stand by him? Perhaps, standing by him may make you appear more intelligent? Or look less like Alfred E. Newman?
