LED ZEPPELIN HAS A ROLLER COASTER … IN MYRTLE BEACH

FITSNews - May 15, 2008 - Since riding roller coasters and listening to Led Zeppelin are two of our favorite things … like, ever … it’s about time somebody put them together. Seriously, move over peanut butter and jelly because this is officially the coolest combination in history, and it’s right here in South Carolina.

The rollercoaster, which Zep guitarist Jimmy Page picked the theme music for himself, goes 65-mph and includes six loops. It opened this week at the Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach, S.C. the world’s first rock-n-roll amusement park.

As cool as the Zep coaster may be though, the Hard Rock Park’s niftiest attraction may be the “Pinball Wizard” arcade. Oh, and bonus points to anybody who can tell us which of the six senses The Who’s original Pinball Wizard played by …

No, no, no. There are only five known senses: touch, smell, taste, sight and hearing. Tommy’s sixth sense is “intuition.”

Rode the Zeppelin coaster on Saturday - twice. The park was empty. They’re planning on 30,000 attendees in the summer… there may have been 2000 there this past weekend even with biker week going on.

For $50 and with no lines, it was not bad. Generally good reviews from both my teens on the rides and shows. The shows were as good as what you see at the Disney/Universal parks - stunt show, diving/musical, country music on ice… basically your second tier American Idol finalists.
Food was very good and not outrageously priced like other theme parks.

Zeppelin ride was best - although the Whole Lotta Love tune that plays during the ride was embedded in my brain for the rest of the day — as was the image of Robert Plant’s package on full close up display in the pre-ride concert video. Nights in White Satin ride was bizarre… combination of 3D, light show, It’s A Small World. Do not attempt under the influence… unless you bring someone to talk you down.

Wish they had picked a better location than behind the old Waccamaw outlet but it has some potential. For South Carolina’s tourism business, we all should do our part to support and promote Hard Rock Park.

i cant wait to go on the Zeppelin coaster myself. Being a fan of both Led Zeppelin and rollar coasters i think i would have a great experience at the park. I think This amusement park will be bring good memories for carolinas and the tourists, but i think we need to add on the the amusement park and bring in the advertisments for the park. if we can promote this park and it might be good for the economy.
