Personally, I think that since we all of the right of pursuit of happiness, then if a gay couple wants to get married, then they should do so. Just because you are attracted to someone of the same sex as you, doesn't mean that you should have a lesser chance of living a "normal life". All states shouldn't be forced to allow gay people to marry but any state that wishes to do so should be able to. I guess all of the states that are against gay marriage think that someone from a state where it is allowed can't pick up their stuff and move where ever they would please. I also guess that these states haven't realized that just because someone isn't married to their gay partner, doesn't mean that they can't love them and show affection towards them just as if they were married. All marriage is is just visible prove of two peoples love for one another. Laws can't change how people feel.

Being raised in the self-proclaimed "Bible-belt" I am against gay marriage. That's not to mean I dislike homosexuals. One of my best friends is gay. I just believe that, as it says in the Good Book, marriage is between a man and a woman. That is how God intended it to be and that is how we should keep it.

10,

Thou shalt not murder was in the 10 commandments. So by your logic, our laws against murder are signs of theocracy. Maybe that is why the atheistic states like the USSR killed so many people - they were fighting back against the church state.

Also, please cite a single law currently in effect in this country that was passed to "restrict the rights" of blacks or women. This is BS, as these groups are protected classes under the Constitution, and groups like the ACLU would make sure any such law would be struck down almost as soon as it was passed.

Too bad the United States is theocracy and not a true republic. As long as a country passes laws to restrict the rights of others (gays, blacks, woman, etc.) who DO NOT harm others, then we are no better than many other countries in the world. They just have a different religion. Until countries separate religion from government, we will never see peace. Religion should be used for faith and spiritual reasons and not as a tool to control or manipulate others.
An idea. Read about suffragists and the threat to the institution of marriage… Thanks to the internet, just copy and paste into any issue dealing with individuals different from yourself and Walla!

So two states allow gay marriage... like many other people in this country I do believe that marriage is between a man and a woman.. that's how it has been stated in the bible. There's no reason to judge a person because of their sexuality, only God can judge you on that one. If someone wants to pronounce their love for another on the other hand I agree completely that they can. Banning gay marriage is something completely different than pronouning your love for someone. You don't have to be married to love someone. You can love someone unconditionally and be perfectly faithful to someone without taking their hand in marriage. I don't hate any homosexual manners, I just believe that some people try to pretend to be gay sometimes to get money and benefits of an actual marriage. Although it does happen to men and women combined. That's only my opinion.

Jeffrey,

You darling. You noticed us at the last Pride Rally. We knew you would after the way we fawned over your sandals.

We love your toes. Even with the big ingrown toenail.

Excellent point, CL. It definitely gives new meaning to the term "slippery slope." But let's turn our attention to this comment by FITS: "Yes, we agree marriage is an institution from God, and that God frowns on the whole gay thing, but we also know that Jesus said something about not judging lest we be judged..." Huh? Did you guys forget to use simple logic, like God can't contradict himself? It's pretty simple, actually: if Jesus-is-God-is-Jesus, then whatever judgementalism he was warning against ain't about the way people choose to behave. If I recall my Sunday school, Jesus spent an awful lot of time "judging" people's behavior (like with the woman caught in adultery, “Neither do I condemn you, but from now on avoid this sin.”) It more than likely has something to do with judging what's in another’s heart.

I'm sure there are plenty of GLBT folks out there with sincere feelings for each other, but that still doesn't make what they do with their bodies morally right in God's eyes. The truths of Christianity cannot be understood apart from the body. If God is our savior, he must save us as we are: bodily human beings.

Marriage is not a label to make whatever you want it to be. It is not created by government. It is older than the Constitution, older than America, older even than the church. It exists in every known human society and it always has something to do with bringing men and women together so that society has the next generation it needs and children have both mothers and fathers.

Marriage is about affirming the ideal. And when it comes to children, science and common sense both say: mothers and fathers both matter to children.

And what's with this statement? "...we still don’t think government should be in the business of defining marriage … that’s God’s job, and we assume he can handle his business." God handles “his business” through his people, not in some vacuum. And revelation has told us that God prefers us to use the reason and faith he gave us to follow what he revealed is the right path.
