The New Death Cab Video Is Long
BUT THIS IS A BAND YOU’RE GOING TO DIG
FITSNews – May 8, 2008 – From time to time we venture music recommendations here at FITSNews, and today we bring you “I Will Possess Your Heart,” the brand new eight and a half minute opus from Washington-based indie rockers Death Cab For Cutie, or DCFC.
The band’s new release Narrow Stairs hits stores next week, two months after their 2005 major label debut Plans was certified platinum. Amazingly, though, Death Cab is still perhaps best known for its lead singer Ben Gibbard’s collaborative side work with techno pop outfit, The Postal Service.
We own all six of Death Cab’s records, and all six are amazing song-smithing. And we honestly could care less that the new single is twice as long as a normal pop song, because a) we’re not in the A&R business and b) the bass line that drives the first four and a half minutes rocks. And check the 2:42 mark, too, as the band slips effortlessly into some old school, Unforgettable Fire -style U2 guitar riffs …
Anyway, give it a listen while you’re checking out the rest of the site today and let us know what you think … Â

FITS,
It was a good song overall, but I have to disagree a little.
It felt a little like the 4:40 intro was just there to make the song 8:31. It would have been just as good with a 2:20 open.
Outside of that, you’re right. It’s well worth the listen.

I appreciate this post more than any post ever. Wouldn’t mind seeing more music blogs from you. The SC Political scene needs some musical guidance.

Thanks for the post:
My $0.02:
The intro sets the tone of the song…necessary: you’ve got to spend some time with the song in order to get the depth/meaning of the simple lyrics.
