This Is Not Encouraging

SPURRIER NEEDS TO GET IT IN GEAR, PEOPLE

FITSNews - April 29, 2008 - After last season’s collapse and this season’s sh*tty recruiting class and off-field troubles, the high hopes surrounding South Carolina’s football team under head coach Steve Spurrier have pretty much vanished.

Which isn’t surprising, because this is South Carolina football - where high hopes have historically gone to die.

Anyway, here was Spurrier’s less-than optimistic assessment in today’s La Socialista on the current status of his program, which fielded its worst NFL draft class in seven years:

“Yeah, maybe someday we’ll have some players the scouts want to come see,” Spurrier said.

Wait … “maybe someday?” We’re paying this guy $1.75 million a year (before endorsements) and he says “maybe someday” we’ll have some decent football players in our program? Jeez …

UPDATE - Of course, no matter how bad Carolina sucks, don’t worry … they’re still making damn sure that their mediocre athletic programs are the only game in town.

Sometimes its hard to be a Gamecock
Giving all your love to just one man
You’ll have bad times
And he’ll have good times
Doing things that you don’t understand
But if you love him you’ll forgive him
Even though he’s hard to understand
And if you love him
Oh be proud of him
‘Cause after all he’s just a man
Stand by your man
Give him two arms to cling to
And something warm to come to
When nights are cold and lonely
Stand by your man
And tell the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your man

I know….it’s gay

Were any of his recruits eligible for the draft this year? If not, I assume by “someday” he meant when his recruits ARE eligible, asshole.

NSJS,

We may be “assholes,” but we could go 6-6 for a lot less than $1.75 million a year.

Oh, and did you stay in the stands until the last second of Florida State’s 59-0 thrashing of SC back in 1988? Did you sit through George Rogers Heisman year in 1980 or go to both Gator Bowls in ‘84 and ‘87? Do you have 2 degrees from Carolina? And did you work for the USC athletic department for 3 years?

We’ve been there every step of the way for our Gamecocks (and always will), but we have a right to speak our minds on the program and will continue to do so.

Career at SC, 21-16. Believe it or not, the heat is on SOS. SC can’t fire him if he goes another year with so-so results or the true meaning of ESPN (Even Spurrier Produces Nothing) will be known.

It is a real shame to see somebody who used to be a hell of a coach like Spurrier doing what all other coaches at Carolina have done, end a career in the graveyard for coaches, with nothing to show except a program that still sucks no matter what you seem to do. USC needs to learn they can bring in all the high priced famous coaches they want but at the end of the day they will still fall short because USC inherintly sucks. USC fans cling to the fact they had a heisman winner, but they have nothing to cheer for that their team actually did, no major bowl appearances/wins, and no national title. Shame to see even their beloved Spurrier like their former man crush Holtz cant seem to deliver anything but mediocrity yet again.
