THE S.C. HOUSE AND SENATE ARE AT IT AGAIN

FITSNews - April 23, 2008 - It’s always fun watching the taxpayer-funded adult day care that is South Carolina’s legislative process. Well, fun until you realize the exorbitant price tag we’re all picking up for the ridiculously sh*tty job they’re doing.

Anyway, the adult day care was in desperate need of a baby-gate this afternoon, as a potential meltdown on an election year immigration bill turned into an actual meltdown. From the House Republican Caucus’ press release:

“Senator Ritchie and the rest of the Senate are kow-towing to their special-interest friends in the Chamber of Commerce and the Farm Bureau. And like clock-work, the Senate is spending valuable public tax dollars bloviating on the floor, shifting blame, and hiding from public scrutiny,” said House Majority Leader Jimmy Merrill.

And from the Senate Republican Caucus release:

“The House has tried to kill this bill twice this year. They are hiding behind some strange interpretation of the rules to avoid delivering strong illegal immigration reform to the people of South Carolina,” said Senator Jim Ritchie.

Children, please … of course the public comments were nothing compared to the shots being fired behind the scenes.

For example, we got a red hot e-mail from a House staffer accusing Senator Ritchie of telling lies that “even his staff admitted were lies,” which kind of surprised us seeing as we got another e-mail from a different House staffer moments later reminding us that Ritchie and his employees have always been pretty, um … ”close.”

Oh yeah … they went there.

“He likes to joke about (Speaker Harrell) being the Mayor of Importantville, well he’s the Emperor of Importantville,” one source in the House said of Ritchie this afternoon. “He’s so obsessed with himself it’s mind-blowing.”

Anyway, our point is that the dipshits running this state are a bunch of whiny-ass b*tches who can’t even pander during an election year without completely dropping the ball (and apparently dropping the dime on each others’ personal lives).

Somebody get the baby-gate! And a fresh box of pull-ups! They’re going to need them at the State House tomorrow …

2. reprehensible - April 23, 2008

It is reprehensible that Senator Ritchie would be attacked in such a way by the House, even more reprehensible that your blog would give credence to such a smear.

Senator Ritchie is a loving husband and father and he and his family do not deserve this filth.

what r u his wife? reprehensible

4. truthseeker - April 23, 2008

Sen Ritchie is nothing but a big government RINO- he can not fathom the concept of fiscal conservatism. But he may indeed be a good parent - and he would make a good Democrat.

I guess 2 should swing by ol’ Ritchie’s office and meet the staffer in question…..

I’m not going to say who’s right and who’s wrong on the issue. I am going to say that Ritchie has a penchant for being less than truthfull and certianly has TWO very big reasons to try to keep “spin control” here. One of them is Max Hyde……

The fact is that Richie’s in a box and he’s (so far with some success) trying to use the House to get out.

Oh, let’s just say it, Ritchie’s as an ass clown.

6. Larry Manetti - April 24, 2008

If you take a look at Wednesday morning’s news reports out of Greenville and Charleston, you’ll see that Ritchie wasn’t the only one who seemingly misinterpreted the proposal from Harrison. The reporters even managed to accurately represent Harrison’s jibber-jabber. I saw the whole damn thing, and I know what the House conferees agreed to. It’s just happens that before they could vote yesterday, they were made aware that their… call it “creative legislating”… wasn’t so much in accordance with parliamentary procedure. So the House staffer is that is feeding you info is just covering for their boss. Staffer X can take cheap shots at Ritchie’s personal life, but that doesn’t prove any point. They’re both good parents. Honestly, Harrison loves his daughter… (insert Bar exam joke).

Regardless, your point is valid, FITS. The ball has officially been dropped. Still time to pick up another ball, however.

#6 - what have you been up to since Magnum P.I.?

8. Seeking Truth - April 24, 2008

plain and simple the House cannot adopt their report w/o granted free conference powers which requires a 2/3 vote that they have yet to get…just like the Governor can’t just take out a word here and there for a veto. The Senate is correct in the parlimentary process here…regardless of facts of the bill and who’s close to their staff etc etc…

9. Some one who cares.... - April 24, 2008

#8, with all due respect you are incorrect. The House can not vote b/c it has nothing to vote on. The House does not need free conference (neither does the Senat really, but we’ll look past that) to delete a logicaly divisable portion of the bill. Both chambers do it all the time, see worker’s comp reform, DUI etc etc etc…

The Houses problem is that they have nothing before them. Whether they want to vote or not they can’t.

It’s a pissing match, if either body wanted to get things moving forward, they could. Playing political games is far too important for that to happen. But hey, that’s all part of the process…Right?
