Gerald Malloy

SENATOR TOOK A PASS ON CONTROVERSIAL PAYDAY LENDING LAWSUIT

FITSNews – April 23, 2008 – Unlike his several of his ethically-compromised colleagues, State Sen. Gerald Malloy declined to participate in a potential multi-million dollar lawsuit against the payday lending industry at the same time that he was casting votes on the state’s payday lending law and electing judges who would interpret it.

Citing the “perception of a conflict,” Malloy is the third elected official to speak up on this legislative scam. Earlier this year, two State Representatives who are involved in the lawsuit announced that they would recuse themselves from voting or participating in the debate on the payday lending bill.

“I made a personal decision not to be involved in the lawsuit because of the fact that there was a pending bill on the calendar,” Malloy told FITSNews during a recent interview in his office. “I don’t want to pass judgment and say that anybody who participates has a conflict, but we all know perception – and perception is reality around here.”

Good for you, Senator Malloy. We probably agree with you 0.001% of the time, but refusing to profit off of the laws you’re passing and the judges you’re electing is downright refreshing given the morally-bankrupt default setting in South Carolina’s corrupt State House culture.

Malloy’s commendable conduct stands in stark contrast to the despicable behavior of State Senators John Hawkins, Brad Hutto, Luke Rankin, Vincent Sheheen and David Thomas – all of whom have whored out their offices and sold the public trust down the river for their own selfish gain.

Of course, the saddest thing is that this isn’t an isolated incident – it’s par for the course in our state government.

Well whoop-ti-do and la-ti-da.

So tell us, is it Senator Malloy? Is it Reform SC? Is it Club for Growth? Is it the governor? Is it SCRG? Is it big tobacco? Is it big oil? Is it the SC Chamber? Is it John McCain? Is it Rudy Giuliani? Is it the friggin’ Turtle Man? Is it James Caan? Is it the Seattle Supersonics?

Blah blah blah blah blah.

Seriously, though. We can’t wait to hear … seems like EVERYBODY is Sic Willie’s client these days.
