Business Community Firing Back On Workers’ Comp
MAILING COULD TARGET LEGISLATORS WITH PRIMARY OPPOSITION
FITSNews – April 22, 2008 – Members of the South Carolina business community are reportedly preparing an offensive against several state lawmakers who shot down a conservative appointment to the S.C. Workers’ Compensation committee earlier this month, sources tell FITSNews.
At least one mail piece is scheduled to go out to voters this week from a prominent pro-business advocacy group. The mailing will highlight the 12,800 jobs lost in South Carolina due to skyrocketing workers’ compensation premiums, says a source familiar with its content.
Unknown at this point is which legislative districts will receive the mailings, or whether or not specific legislators will be mentioned by name, although our source says State Senators Catherine Ceips, Jake Knotts and Randy Scott are all likely to feel its sting. All three Senators face credible Republican primary opposition this summer, and all three joined the S.C. Senate’s “Personal Injury Lawyer Caucus†last week in scuttling the nomination of Samuel F. Painter, a conservative workers’ comp appointee of Gov. Mark Sanford.
Our source declined to provide a copy of the mailing or identify the group responsible for it, and calls to the S.C. Chamber of Commerce and the S.C. Civil Justice Coalition – two especially vocal groups on the conservative side of the workers’ comp debate – were not immediately returned.
The governor’s office also declined to comment on whether any pro-Sanford groups were involved with the mailing.

i would think that is due to the economy stupid, but since you are shilling for Otis Rawl and his band of idiots at the State Chamber, we should expect no less….

ST,
The only thing we’re “shilling” for is what we believe in.
And in case you don’t remember, we’ve blasted Mr. Rawl and his “band of idiots” at the State Chamber on several occasions in the past.
Nice try, though. Amatuer attempts to diminish our credibility such as this one are always welcome, particularly if you keep coming back for more.

Here is some truth. I think several of the folks you named in the article are reinforced by folks that actually know how to drive that tank. LOL

I’m confused. I was in the hearing room and never heard Senator Ceips or Senator Scott ask the nominee (the one that wrote the Governor’s unconstitutional executive orders and believes that the Governor can single-handedly pass laws that the General Assembly rejects, btw) a single question. Senator Knotts only asked one question and that was if he did, in fact, make a contribution to ReformSC.
How did they shoot him down when he withdrew his nomination?

come on, I was not at the hearing but I was under the impression that he finally withdrew after the berating he was getting from Sen. Hawkins – did you see any of that?
I bet he was taking a pay cut to accept this position and figured, why put up with this hassle (before the cranky Senators) and a lower salary too?
