FITSNews Exclusive – State Senator Arrested For DUI
RANDY SCOTT BUSTED FOR DRUNK DRIVING, FEMALE COMPANION IN CAR AT TIME OF ARREST
FITSNews – April 20, 2008 – State Sen. Randy Scott (R- Summerville) has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence, sources in Dorchester County, S.C., tell FITSNews.
The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office was not immediately available for comment, but Scott was reportedly in the car with an unidentified female companion who is not his wife at the time of his arrest.
Our source also says that Scott pitched a royal hissy-fit inside the pokey, demanding that a magistrate be called immediately to let him out of jail.
A member of political consultant Rod Shealy’s “Reform Caucus,” Scott is midway through his third year in the S.C. Senate.
You know, what’s truly amazing about this story isn’t that a Dorchester County lawmaker got busted for a DUI, it’s that it wasn’t State Rep. Annette Young …
UPDATE – Charleston-based WCIV TV is now also reporting on Scott’s arrest, including this lovely mug shot of the Senator:

You go Sheriff Nash! You really do have to just ***wait for it*** sometimes. Please remember me in the future — those warning tickets are peachy.
By Yo on April 20th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
I wonder how he voted in strengthening our state’s DUI laws…
By Love Dorchester on April 20th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
Senator Scott wasn’t drinking or drunk, all that was the residual alcohol from being in the close proximity to Rep. Annette Young. Remember Will, you parked you car in her parking space for only a few seconds and it died from alcohol poisoning. Enough about that, lets talk DUI reform. Anybody know the number to AA, put it in the new DUI bill so Senators know it too.

Ah, the mantra of Dorchester County Republicans – “Keep my taxes low and let the whiskey flow.” Its amazing that Greenville and Dorchester are even in the same country, much less the same state. This may actually help Scott with some voters.

Makw this guy an example for every prom going high schooler that thinks they can handle their booze.
Randy Scott has offically surpassed Grand Theft Auto as a bad influence on our kids.
Resign you worthless, over priviledged alcoholic!

Do not judge who wins the game based on the half time score…Let’s try the case in the court room and not Fitts News where LIBEL is still actionable in South Carolina. This is a NEWS media selling topic tonight to get ratings but the true story of who really broke the law will not be told for months to come. Stay tuned.
By Spike on April 20th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
His attorney is Reese Joye. This guy has written books on how to beat DUI raps.
The last time I looked, the Reese Law Firm’s office on Rivers Avenue had a sign out front for Randy. Unlike a lot of campaign donors, Joye will probably make a pretty penny in return for his support.

“the good book” says, “be sure your sins will find you out”. Frankly I was wondering when this guy would be exposed.

By marty mcfly on April 20th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
good for the goose… thats a tad bit too harsh. i dont know how old u r but most high schoolers take limos to the proms nowadays rendering your argument obsolete. everyone deserve a second chance and for all we know your prob drinking and boozing just like him. and it doesn’t make u an alcoholic just cause u drink and drive just ask folks that.

Interesting how when big government throws money at attempting to help kids get smarter you’re all up in arms but when big government throws somebody in jail for a victimless crime you are all about running their name through the mud. If you want to trash Senator Scott I’m sure there are much better reasons to do so than the fact that he did something 60% of SC does every weekend.
By FOOK UUU on April 21st, 2008 at 1:13 am
hey ‘Love Dorchester’, it sounds like you and Will Folks are a lot alike, it is easier to fight for principles than to live up to them.
I’m still missing how someone convicted of domestic violence and drugs has any moral authority.
By Frustrated on April 21st, 2008 at 5:15 am
I would not be too harsh on this guy.
A significant number of members of the General Assembly could be caught doing the same thing or worse at any given time.
Face it…there are precious few in Columbia that are worth a penny…the Gov included. Somehow we have attracted the lowest sort of people, and turned them all into demi-gods.
By If the shoe FITS on April 21st, 2008 at 7:55 am
Frustrated, your observations about those who are in Columbia are dead-on. A lot of them are losers and low-lifes, yet we think they are the best of the best.
I found it somewhat ironic that Paul Rubens (Pee Wee Herman) was at the State House. I think he was looking to learn a few new tricks. If so, he was at the right place.
But just because they’re all rotten scumbag sorry losers doesn’t mean Scott, or any of the rest of them, deserve to get off the hook.
Lord knows if you or I get pulled over and arrested for DUI, odds are pretty good we wouldn’t get out of jail with a PR bond. We’d be paying big bucks, or we’d be the next bitches of cellblock B.
By Natasha on April 21st, 2008 at 8:11 am
Fook,
I hear Folksy doesn’t even drink anymore. People can and do change. Imagine that! But no, losers like you keep bringing it up, even though it happened years ago, not like it happened yesterday or even within the last year…Sometimes people have to hit bottom before they realize something has to change. I think there is a word for it, oh yeah, it’s called redemption…

He needs to get back to work and vote himself a raise.
By cosmo kramer on April 21st, 2008 at 12:11 pm
yeah like will folks. how could you forget that abc?
By stan the caddy on April 21st, 2008 at 12:16 pm
and fook uu yer exactly right he has absolutely no moral authority, he is no better than randy scott. he slams people and the general assembly without offering or undertaking any solutions himself. Anway a convicted felon/wifebeater would have a hard time winning a election.
By Spike on April 21st, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Stan – how about a compromise? Will isn’t holding office, and he’s not presently awaiting trial. Let’s offer Randy a deal – quit, stop off at Will’s unsanitary rathole and kill some more bugs and we’ll drop the charges and even pick up the bar tab for both of them for the evening?
It’s not like we’re talking about picking up Annette’s bar tab, so we should be able to afford it. Especially if the bar takes food stamps.
By Summerville Native on April 21st, 2008 at 12:45 pm
“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”
Careful on casting your judgements on Senator Scott, I’d hate to see one of those stones your throwing bust a window in your glass house.
By Seeking Truth on April 21st, 2008 at 12:52 pm
#8 Spike – It’s the Joye Law Firm, not the Reese Firm.
Anyhow, I think we are to quick to judge here. I for one if I were stopped for suspected DUI, would never take a breathalyzer until I spoke with my lawyer and that would immediately land me in jail, and so I guess people would automatically convict me. C’mon folks…in the wake of the recent trooper videos etc..I think it’s safe to say law enforcement isn’t always right and sometimes a bit overboard..let’s let this play out.
By PB&J on April 21st, 2008 at 1:10 pm
love how all of Senator Scott’s sleazy supporters show up here this morning- waiting to defend him. The fact is, he put himself in a situation to get a DUI arrest 7 weeks before an election. You can’t be more politically stupid than that (although voting yourself a pay raise is pretty close).
By Hot Rod's Hoes on April 21st, 2008 at 1:21 pm
#10 abc – Just how much is Rod Shealy paying you and that other slut to “service” his clients with your blog comments (and who knows what else)? You should stick to the Beaufort Gazette and telling people how “awesome” Catherine Ceips is. At least you don’t have to sleep with her on Rod’s behalf – Wallace Scarborough’s got you covered on that one!!!!!
HRH
By stan the caddy on April 21st, 2008 at 1:43 pm
Spike- I for one am not confident both of us could pick up Folk’s and Scott’s tab. It could be just as big as Annetes, if not bigger esp if he’s in the “beating” mood. However, we could always stop at Folks’s “happy place” aka a strip club We could broker Will a deal; if he would stop spewing %$^& of the mouth, we’ll pay for his numerous lap dances, that is if we can afford it for we all know if you combine his two favorite things ie lap dances and drinks, you have a tab bigger than the $%^ he spews. What do you say?
By Spike on April 21st, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Spike – I don’t think there is enough money in Fort Knox to pay for your plan. Liberal free-spending values like yours just won’t work in these here parts.
Instead, let’s just put our hard-earned dollars where they belong – our own drunken gratification. Funk all these losers in Columbia – most of those sorry rat bastards can’t earn a real living or keep a real job anyway.
That’s a conservative stimlus package I can approve of, and I’m sure you would too.
But unlike Randy, we’ll need to set some money aside, because us private citizens don’t qualify for personal recognizance bonds for DUI arrests. Only State Senators who are crass enough to demand one of their magisterial appointments come down to spring ‘em out the pokey.
By stan the caddy on April 21st, 2008 at 6:38 pm
Spike- I agree with your plan for the most part. Looking back my bold plan would have run me out of house and home as well as you. I severely underestimated just how much money it would cost to fulfill sick willies favorite pastimes. Instead we should follow in sick willies drunken footsteps and put our hard earned dollars to use, by squandering them in our favorite watering holes. Who knows, maybe sick willie will crawl out of the rathole that he lives in and enjoy in our festivities? However, let’s not fully undertake in his twisted ways, or we’ll end up just like him, which is a role in which no man or woman wants to fill. There’s not enough room in Cola for people who rant but offer no solutions.
By truth seeker on April 21st, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Spike,
You are obviously a moron. People qualify for PR bonds all the time. A friend of mine was arrested for DUI ten years ago (and his ass was drunk and stupid and had both legs) but he didn’t even live in the county he was arrested in. I went in the next morning and he was released to me on a PR bond…and I was about 26 yrs old at the time…so why was I credible. It’s based on what the judge feels, priors etc. So unless you are Willie and have a record…even you Spike may get a PR bond
By Ron on April 22nd, 2008 at 10:16 pm
I’m beginning to believe that maybe this “junkyard dog” dui lawyer will get Scott acquitted. I must admit, if i were stopped for dui, that’s probably who i’d call. Does this change Scott’s reelection chances. I heard that his polling numbers were very impressive as of last week.

Why do so many of you bring up Wills past. get over it and focus on what has happened to Scott, and not make excusses for him either way. We know the chances are that he will get off easier then most of us would.,
By I want nothing to do with this website or you stupid people on May 21st, 2008 at 5:56 am
You all are a complete group of idiots. I work for Senator Scott and if any of you had any idea about ANYTHING relating to politics OR took the time to actually follow South Carolina politics, MAYBE you wouldn’t be so ignorant and foolish to make such stupid comments. I love reading all of your rude responses, but having to go to work everyday and take your phone calls when you all of a sudden need Senator Scott’s help. This entire website and you readers are idiots. Try reading a newspaper, that is if you konw how to read.
By Reid Wyly on May 29th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
Slander is the first thing that comes to my mind. Randy Scott is a good man and I believe federal laws were broken and the sheriff is guilty. Lets see who is squirming now. Senator Scott’s civil rights were violated. Abuse of power and the sheriffs close ties with Mr. Rose all play a part in this obscene display of slander and lies.
Shame on Mike Rose and Ray Nash. The feds should be called in to investigate them.

I think people need to stop trying to burn people at the stake for mistakes. I would love to see what the percentages are for americans caught drinking and driving or driving while impaired. I think it is in the 40% to 50% margin, so unless 50% of the american people look down on the rest of us I think people need to see the point in prevention instead of prosecution.
