More Centrist Hints
ANOTHER INDICATION THAT JOHN MCCAIN IS GUNNING FOR THE MIDDLE
FITSNews - April 18, 2008 - Just as our story the other day on the flirtation between GOP presidential nominee John McCain and former Democratic VP nominee Joe Lieberman seemed to validate a larger point - namely that McCain is going to run a centrist campaign - so does this story, which ran today on The Politico.
While much of this article is focused on McCain’s fundraising challenges, take a look at this section:
First, (McCain’s) advisers can read polls and recognize the daunting right track/wrong track polling headwind that is gusting in their face.
Differences between Bush and McCain will be “discussed at great length,” promises one aide.
“He’ll be direct about it. He’s never gratuitous, never disrespectful, but there are going to be policy breaks where it couldn’t be clearer.” Two areas of difference McCain will highlight: global warming and spending.
Yup, it’s shaping up just like we said it would. And good for McCain. We’re not trying to “gratuitously” criticize President Shrub-nuts, either, but the fact is we could have put a cocker spaniel in the Oval Office for the last seven years and our country would probably be better off than it is today.
