HANDFUL OF FISCAL CONSERVATIVES AT S.C. STATE HOUSE MAKING THEIR VOICES HEARD

FITSNews - April 15, 2008 - Last week it was S.C. Rep. Mick Mulvaney blocking a backdoor pay increase for state legislators, this week it’s S.C. Rep. Nikki Haley filing a bill that would force all state spending votes “on the record.”

In case you missed it, lawmakers in the S.C. House of Representatives tried to anonymously pass a pension increase for themselves last week, literally hours after state budget estimates were slashed by $180 million.

Not surprisingly, the most vocal advocate for this ill-timed legislative perk was “Republican” Ways & Means Chairman Dan “Egg-Tooth” Cooper, who obviously likes things to go through the backdoor … politically-speaking, anyway.

Mulvaney and Haley both deserve tremendous credit for standing up to Cooper and House Speaker Bobby Harrell on this boondoggle, as do State Reps. Gary “Poof In The Roof” Simrill, Eric “I Love Natasha” Bedingfield and Nathan “Big Head” Ballentine.
