What’s Up With Being Bitter?

obama bitter

CANDIDATE’S REMARK IS TRUE, PEOPLE

FITSNews - April 14, 2008 - Apparently while Sic Willie was off celebrating his engagement to the most amazing and beautiful woman on the planet, things went totally berserk in the Democratic presidential primary. Specifically, frontrunner Barack Obama is getting all sorts of grief for saying that Pennsylvania voters are “bitter”. Here’s what Obama said at a San Francisco fundraiser last week:

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are going to regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Having spent a lot of time in Pennsylvania, we can certainly attest to the accuracy of Obama’s “bitter” comment, although we think Keystone State voters are that way because it’s friggin cold up there and you can literally go weeks without seeing anyone who’s even remotely attractive. Come to think of it, Pennsylvania is a lot like West Virginia except without the inbreeding. And marginally better dental hygiene.

Anyway, while the fishbowl pundits in Washington D.C. are all going ape-sh*t over Obama’s remarks, we’re trying to figure out why this is a scandal. Specifically, what did homeboy say that’s not 100% true?

With the economy souring and gas prices soaring, Americans are absolutely bitter as hell right now, and while it’s obvious that Obama’s plans aren’t going to do a damn thing to turn this country around, we find it hard to criticize the guy for stating the obvious.

In fact, the Democratic race has been so annoying and anally-PC for so long that we’re seriously wondering whether or not these two idiots are running for the presidency of Oprah’s book club.

UPDATE - It appears GOP nominee John McCain has now jumped into this fray, calling Obama’s remarks “elitist” but stopping short of calling Obama an elitist. Good grief.

PA girls rock… you simply don’t know what you are talking about… plus Will…you didn’t mine romancing a bunch of us while you were there! I might live in Connecticut now but I will always be a proud, card-carrying Pennsylvanian. …

But you are right… it does get wickedly cold there… I would move to SC in a heartbeat but I want my kids to be able to read… so I will stick with the cultured north.

Hillary gets in trouble for LIES, while Barack gets in trouble for the truth. And for some reason, McCain can’t raise money off either of ‘em. crazy.

I have long suspected FITS of being a RINO, but I never thought he was a Commie. Who said this:

“Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature . . .”

That’s right, Obama is parroting Marx. By the way, Obama has been running on an anti-trade stance. Since an “anti-trade sentiment” is apparently nothing more than a prejudice of ignorant, bitter people, is BHO admitting he is one of those unfortunate rubes or he is displaying his own hypocrisy and rank opportunism.

EESG - Yes, Sic is guilty on that count … very guilty.

CL - We’ve bashed Obama on numerous occasions for numerous different offenses … we just don’t think he deserves the grief on this one.

will,
a great summary on why the bitter comment is a problem. Peter Wehner says, “Obama speaks about the importance of religious faith in his life and the life of the nation — yet when speaking to a group of rich liberals, he implicitly denigrates people of faith, pairing them with people who have “antipathy to people who aren’t like them” and who harbor “anti-immigrant sentiment[s].” He paints religious believers as folks clinging to crutches to better deal with their desperate lives — only to insist last night that his words were actually a tribute to people of religious faith. So sayeth Barack Obama, “healer of broken souls.”

FITS,

I might agree some of the criticisms of Obama would be petty if he had an actual record that we could judge him on. McCain has a lifetime of experiences and positions to speak to his beliefs. Yet Obama is a blank slate (which should disqualify him for president, but that is another issue) with absolutely zero accomplishments. All we have to judge him on are the things he says and the people he associates with (Rev. Wrong). Obama flunks on both tests.

The “bitter” comment is revealing of the elitism and snobbery of the Senator from Illinois. This is the same candidate whose wife laments to working class women how costly it is to provide piano lessons for her kids and how tough it has been on the Obamas to pay off their student loans on over $400k per year. This is the same candidate who was complaining about the cost of arugula at Whole Foods to a farmer in Iowa (a state that has zero Whole Foods stores) and opted for $100 dollar Spanish ham over a Philly Cheese Steak in a Philadelphia Italian Market. Cumulatively, these vignettes paint a revealing and unattractive picture of BHO’s character.
