South Carolina Effs Up Everything It Touches April 9, 2008
Posted by fitsnews in : SC Politics , trackbackGOVERNOR SANFORD’S SIGNATURE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEAL IS HAVING SOME SERIOUS ISSUES
FITSNews - April 9, 2008 - Since most people in South Carolina are tragically stupid, our workforce expertise in this state is pretty much limited to people stacking boxes at minimum wage. Which is one reason we employ so many people at distribution centers and so few people in skilled manufacturing jobs, like the ones Gov. Mark Sanford was so excited to bring to the South Carolina Lowcountry a few years back with the big Vought-Alenia global aeronautics facility announcement.
Well, it turns out Sanford’s lone major economic development victory of the past six years isn’t exactly panning out too well, as a Business Week exclusive report today says that screw-ups at Vought-Alenia’s North Charleston facility have contributed to the delay of Boeing’s new “Dreamliner” aircraft. From the story:
A prime example (of supply chain problems) was the botched assembly of the fuselage at a South Carolina plant run by Global Aeronautica, an alliance of Italy’s Alenia Aeronautica and Vought Aircraft Industries of Texas. Boeing late last month bought out Vought’s interest in the joint venture, which is expected to speed things up. “We deeply regret the disruption and disappointment these changes will cause for our customers and we will work closely with each of them to minimize the impact,” (Boeing’s spokesman) said in a statement.
Yikes. We’re not exactly sure from a business standpoint what all that “buying out interest in the joint venture” means, except it’s pretty obvious to us that South Carolinians should consider learning to walk and chew gum at the same time before trying to build the next generation of commercial airliners.
Seriously, people. The next time you hear us constructively criticize the abysmal failure of our state’s worst-in-the-nation education system, this is exactly what we’re talking about.
Incidentally, when this plant was announced three years ago, Gov. Sanford said:
“Like BMW this announcement is a major step forward for South Carolina’s economy and a major step forward in our efforts to raise income levels and improve quality of life for our citizens.”
And the state’s Secretary of Commerce at the time, Bob Faith, said this:
“The groundbreaking use of composites (in the Dreamliner’s fuselage construction) has applications far beyond the aerospace industry, and puts South Carolina on the cutting edge of this knowledge-based technology.”
Hmmm … based on today’s news, it looks to us like the only “cutting edge” our state is on is the “cutting edge” required to open cardboard boxes.

It is easy to sit back and do nothing but criticize South Carolina, public education, our Legislature, etc.
What do YOU do to make things better, Fits? How about YOU running for public office to make a difference?
Ooops!
Convicted felons are prohibited from such, eh? Correct me if I am wrong.
Purple-Minded,
It is easy to sit back and criticize, particularly since we got our new comfy office chairs.
To address your points, though, we wouldn’t want to particpate in a democracy anyway, because we’re right 100% of the time and having to tolerate people who are 100% wrong all the time would drive us crazy.
Having said that, we do a lot to make things better in our own, inimitable way, like advocating for real solutions that have proven effective in other states - the vast majority of which have actually joined the 21st Century, by the way.
We also do the public a service by calling out the morons who continue to spend ever-escalating sums of our tax dollars to produce the same BS economy, BS government, BS school system, etc., etc. ad infinitum.
Oh, and we’re also f*cking sexy beasts with a lot of money and a total lack of concern for what idiots like you think of what we do.
And again, if you don’t like the opinions expressed on our website, then stop paying our bills by continuing to visit us, dumbass.

folks doesnt know how to handle criticism hahaha
I’m pretty sure convicted felons can run for any office they want. They just aren’t allowed to vote for themselves or anybody else for that matter.
I don’t think anyone associated with FITSNews is a convicted felon. That’s just more bullshit from the haters.
With all due respect to the highminded discussion that precedes….could somoebody please tell me how mismanagement at Vought is SC’s fault?
the last thing we need is folks in office.
Purpleminded, you really rock! You and our BIN News Staff are among the very few who can really make sic(k) willie blow a gasket.
Congratulations on nailing him. He does nothing to improve things in S.C. All he does is spout “paid for” right wing wacko partisan political rhetoric supplied by and paid for by the highest bidder. That’s often SCRG and several lame wacko PACs that gub’ner Sanfraud supports.
Pimps do the same thing. But they’re more honest and honorable.

Such anger, Fits. I bet if I were within reach, you would throw me against the wall and give me a black eye.
PS, you are just mad because I called out you and your girlfriend who is dying to be chair of LCI.
Why aren’t we giving these sorts of wealthy companies hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to come here ?
Isn’t that what a Governor and Legislature are for ? To spend money we do not have to line wealthy corporation’s pockets?
Let’s give money away to Cabela’s too- they sure need it worse than the dumb taxpayers.
(I wonder what purpleminded does when his kids make a mistake? Taunt them about it every day until they are old enough to leave home and never come back?)

Yawn.
pardon my ignorance, but what is LCI?
