… AND HILLARY CLINTON GETS A NEW CAMPAIGN STRATEGY

FITSNews – April 7, 2008 - We’ve never heard of democratic pollster Mark Penn before, but from the looks of it his talents include eating a lot and not exercizing. Which means he’d fit right in here in South Carolina.

Penn’s other talent appears to be running crappy presidential campaigns, seeing as Hillary Clinton is pretty much getting her ass kicked by Barack Obama. Which isn’t exactly why Penn was fired as Clinton’s campaign manager yesterday, but whatever. It works for us, and apparently it works for the Associated Press, too:

Penn was forced out after it was disclosed that he met with representatives of the Colombian government to help promote a free trade agreement that Clinton opposes. His departure was a welcome change for many Clinton supporters and advisers, who disagreed with his strategic choices and had grown weary of his singular control over her message.

Indeed, the message Penn fashioned for Clinton seemed at times completely wrong for the moment. She was cast as the “experience” candidate in a year voters craved change; the “establishment” candidate when they sought someone fresh; and the “strength” candidate when they yearned to see some humanity.

Jesus, are American voters really this vapid? And are our politicians really this malleable? Seriously, people. This kind of crap bodes very ill for the future of democracy. We might as well be electing a damn prom queen … or voting somebody off of some reality TV island.

Just once, can we have a serious issues-based discussion?
