RUMORS, ACCUSATIONS SWIRL AT S.C. STATE HOUSE

FITSNews – April 7, 2008 – After several national political blogs picked up our story about the racist flyer found last week on S.C. Rep. Bill Sandifer’s desk, it seems more than a few local reporters – including the FITS gals – are suddenly filing Freedom of Information Act requests in an effort to get to the bottom of the brewing scandal.

Entitled “Why he’ll lose the black vote,” the controversial flyer shows a crowd of African-Americans fleeing from a superimposed image of presidential candidate Barack Obama, who is quoted as offering them jobs. Black leaders have bristled at the obvious implication, and several have publicly condemned Sandifer for having such an offensive tract displayed in his office.

“I’m trying to imagine what would have happened if two African-American interns had walked into his office and seen that staring back at them from his desk,” State Sen. Darrell Jackson said during an interview with FITSNews last week. “I suspect they would have been highly insulted and offended by that.”

In the days since this story broke, rumors and accusations concerning the flyer’s origins have been swirling around the S.C. State House, particularly among members of the House Republican Caucus.

Some rumors have even suggested that our founding editor Sic Willie planted the controversial image on Sandifer’s desk, or doctored the photograph, two charges he laughs off.

Those working at the State House know for a fact the photograph isn’t faked.

Too many received the same image in their e-mail inboxes, although it’s unknown how many of them printed out copies like the one found on Sandifer’s desk.

In fact, some have speculated that the impending uproar over this flyer could surpass “Memogate,” a scandal from seven years ago in which a group of House Republicans known as the “Men’s Caucus” were caught drafting a sexually-explicit memo to female pages. The memo was never sent, but its contents were found in a State House trash can by a particularly intrepid reporter and published in the state’s largest newspaper.

“This’ll be bigger than Memogate,” said one GOP State Representative who spoke with FITSNews on the condition of anonymity. “That (flyer) was zipping around lots of people’s e-mails and lots of people were commenting and saying stuff about it they probably shouldn’t have.”

Another Representative we spoke with said several of his colleagues were furiously deleting e-mails Thursday afternoon as a result of the picture being made public.

“I deleted it the second I got it because it personally offended me,” he said, adding that the original e-mail including the controversial flyer was sent sometime the week of March 24-28.

In case you were wondering, deleted government e-mails actually remain stored for up to 45 days in a computer backup queue, meaning they are accessible to FOIA searches provided those inquiries are submitted in a timely manner.

No one has stepped forward as of yet to claim responsibility for the flyer, although we’ll be sure to update you as soon as we hear something on that front …

I just don’t get this.

If it was sent to me I might very well have printed it, and read it very carefully. A lot can be learned about who wrote it, and why, if one takes time to study something carefully.

I suppose I am just missing something…but I thought thats why we live in America…we can have read what we want…and then make our decisions about what we think. Perhaps if more people actually read things before speaking we would have a lot less smack talking…and a lot more understanding..

Hmm, I wonder if this whole thing has anything to do with an upcoming election for Chairman of LCI? Can we figure out who slick willie is working for?

I agree with #1. If he isn’t the one sending the thing out…what’s the big deal?

Who’s filing the 1st FOIA request?

“Surprised” makes a good point, and I haven’t followed this story that closely, but if he just ‘had this flyer on his desk’ and even took the apparently dastardly act of reading…so what? Even those who get the FOIA request answered (assuming its fruitful) might even themselves “gasp” have the flyer on their desk one day soon, and let’s face it, they probably even plan on reading it.

The real issue here is the flyer itself and who distributed it and for what purpose – of note regarding purpose, I am sure even the local public library has a copy of mien conf (sp?) – but it is probably not housed their in support of nazism.

You people obviously don’t know Sandifer, and the “flier” was an email. Which means he took the time to print it out.

I agree with #2. Fits, many people know of your “special”
friendship with a certain legislator. Some people will do anything to get what they want, and you appear to be more than willing to help.

I agree with #1 , but also #2 makes a good point. It is no secret that Scarborough and Sandifer will be among the candidates for LCI chair…when and if Cato is elected pro-tempore.

Willie, there is an error of omission in the “Should Hilary Quit” poll.

And it is here:

Who would you vote for…

McCain
Hilary
Obama

It is flawed logic without Romney on that Republican ticket. If we don’t get Mitt in that White House, we are going to serve up a big ol’ dollop of Hilary!!!

#2, #6 and #7,

It’s good to see the Columbia insiders rising up to defend their sacred cows. We’ll just have to see what the FOIA’s reveal, won’t we?

Also, we think the fact that both The Politico and Wonkette picked up the story is sufficient justification for our original editorial decision to publish it.

Oops, I mean Hillary. I don’t know why she puts that extra “L’ in her name. But we are going to give her both “L”egs to stand on. We are women and we can make lots of loud noises. Pleasant and unpleasant.

Truthseeker, I was referring to someone who wants the chairLADYship of LCI.

P.S. I think I saw Mike Huckabee driving one of those BLINDING WHITE First Baptist Church buses out of the El Dorado, Texas compound on Saturday.

The Politico and Wonkette just happened to be two more outlets duped by the festering garbage oozing out of this blog.

By Believe It Not (a.k.a. Sic Willie's Stalker) on April 7th, 2008 at 6:04 pm

“Festering garbage” paints too rosy a picture of sic(k) willie’s blog. This is just another “willie scam.” So what? Someone emailed someone a bad.

Perhaps willie emailed it. Perhaps sic(k) willie’s scam assistant planted it. Can’t trust anything from sic(k) willie.

Besides, sic(k) willie probably has an inbox full of porno. And, as long as all of the animals are legal age, who cares?

Gosh, that’s interesting.

Correspondence of legislators is exempt from FOIA. Good luck getting their e-mails.

#1 Who says this paper comes from the internet downloaded by Sandifer?
#2 Seems awfully funny that Fits’ girls just happen to be in his office to take a picture when this paper is lying on his desk.
#3 Who says the paper was not planted by Fits’ girls?

This whole deal smells like a “set up” from a hundred miles away.

Shame on you and your up close and personal female legislator friend.
