SPEAKER HARRELL LAUNCHES REELECTION CAMPAIGN … ON TAXPAYER DIME

FITSNews – March 20, 2008 – In the lastest sign that House Speaker Bobby Harrell isn’t quite ready for prime time, the Lowcountry legislative leader officially launched his 2008 reelection campaign yesterday … from his taxpayer-funded office. We imagine it was probably pretty convenient for him to do so, the only problem is it’s also conveniently illegal.

That’s right, people. State law expressly forbids campaigning on the taxpayer dime – which Harrell is probably reminding his spokesman, Greg Foster, of right about now after Foster released Harrell’s campaign announcement from his government e-mail account yesterday afternoon.

We doubt Harrell’s honest mistake will hurt him all that much, though. What will hurt him? His utterly atrocious record on spending and his recent attempt to brush off a secret multi-million dollar slush fund up at Clemson University.

UPDATE – Wonder if Speaker Harrell will also launch his gubernatorial campaign using taxpayer dollars? Wait … he’s pretty much already done that. Sort of like Henry McMaster, and State Sen. Jim Ritchie, come to think of it.

I guess if your gonna spend it all you might as well not stop at your own expense.

“Just keep spending, just keep spending, just keep spending…oh, wait I’m a Republican…oh no, well that would mean I wouldn’t have been able to sell out to the Dems. But I did…hmmm. Oh hey little fella, sure I can give you some money too. WAIT, I’m supposed to remember something…ohhh what is it, spend?…no, uhhh save?…no, mmm be Republican?…no….Oh, Oh, I got it! Play both sides so I have a better chance of being Governor.”

Harrell, your starting to get sloppy!
