Well, if we look at the period covered, the five year span falls neatly into the tenure of our Gubernatorial Boy Toy. As a true businessman, Carroll Campbell knew that economic development feeds the state. As a statesman, he also recognized and harnessed the power of the Chief Executive to this end. Notably, while he worked with the Legislature, he could have moved unilaterally to much of the same successes.

Sanfeld has done nothing of the kind. The Jasper port deal is an anomaly in an otherwise dismal failure of public stewardship. His passing will be one for the books, a premier case study in how to run a state into the ground. Well done, thou noble wanker and good riddance.
