SOUTH CAROLINA’S COMPETITIVE POSITION CONTINUES TO SLIP
FITSNews – March 18, 2008 – South Carolina ranks dead last in the nation in economic dynamism and entrepreneurialism, and is in the bottom half of states in pretty much every other leading economic indicator, a new report prepared for the S.C. Chamber of Commerce shows. Specifically, the Palmetto State ranks in the bottom half nationally when it comes to education and work force preparedness, government efficiency and regulatory environment, infrastructure and connectivity and quality of life. From today’s Greenville News:
“Overall,” the consulting firm concluded, “South Carolina’s rankings and scores and its slippage in several drivers over the last five years indicate the need for continued aggressive change in order to make the state more competitive.”
Well, duh. Unfortunately, the idiots who run this state have made the decision that “becoming more competitive” means starving our economy so they can continue growing government by obscene amounts each year, with the Chamber of Commerce typically marching in lockstep behind that failed approach. Oh, and for all you haters out there, we’re not just saying it’s a failed approach – it is a failed approach, empirically-speaking.
See, these people weren’t throwing darts blindfolded when they wrote this report, they looked at over 80 different econometric models in reaching the conclusion that South Carolina is a hell of a lot less competitive today than it was just five years ago.

Well, if we look at the period covered, the five year span falls neatly into the tenure of our Gubernatorial Boy Toy. As a true businessman, Carroll Campbell knew that economic development feeds the state. As a statesman, he also recognized and harnessed the power of the Chief Executive to this end. Notably, while he worked with the Legislature, he could have moved unilaterally to much of the same successes.
Sanfeld has done nothing of the kind. The Jasper port deal is an anomaly in an otherwise dismal failure of public stewardship. His passing will be one for the books, a premier case study in how to run a state into the ground. Well done, thou noble wanker and good riddance.

That’s what more than half a decade of ideological navel-gazing and failed leadership will get you. Wonder where we’d be if we’d spent all these years without the worst governer in the nation.

Well, this looks like about the most dismal category to put this dismal observation:
Look at this little diagram of SC — with everything blacked out except for Lexington:

See there, under “Welcome to Lexington County”
This is exactly how they operate over here.

And here — look:
The State, Quote of the Day, Pg. B3
Jake Knotts & What he said:
“If this [Real ID resolution] is not out by next Friday, the people in South Carolina won’t be able to fly like other normal people fly right now.”
Unsaid interpretation:
SOME Carolinians will never be able to fly right — ID or not.
