Damn Nation? March 17, 2008

FITSNews - March 17, 2008 - It seems that controversial remarks from Democratic frontrunner Barack Obama’s preacher have once again made race the central issue of the 2008 presidential campaign. Sort of like it was last week. And back in January, too, for that matter. Or pretty much ever since Obama announced he was running.
Anyway, as far as we’re concerned, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Jr. (Obama’s controversial pastor) can say “God Damn America” all he wants. That’s his prerogative in a free country, although we think Brother Ali captured the sentiment a little better in his song Uncle Sam Goddamn.
Saying “God Damn America” is a lot like burning a flag - it’s a logical contradiction, but the fact that we allow people to do it without sending them off to a gas chamber or a gulag is, quite frankly, why this country exists. Also, we continue to be disappointed that the Democratic presidential primary remains nothing but one long, drawn-out political correctfest.
Look, people. We don’t care if our next president is a purple-skinned, homosexual athiest with six toes, one eye and zipper problem/ crack habit/ potty mouth … just so long as he or she tells those jokers in Washington to cut our friggin’ taxes, protect our individual liberties and stop spending so much of our damn money.
