FORMER STATE TREASURER TALKS EXCLUSIVELY TO FITSNEWS

FITSNews – March 15, 2008 – In his only public comments since being sentenced yesterday to ten months in a federal prison on drug charges, former State Treasurer Thomas Ravenel spoke exclusively with FITSNews this morning.

“I accept it,” Ravenel said when asked about his 10-month sentence. “I want everybody to know I’ve accepted it.”

In his brief conversation with our founding editor Sic Willie – who advised Ravenel during his successful 2006 campaign – the former Treasurer spoke mostly about his family and friends in a calm, even voice, thanking them for their support and reiterating his courtroom promise to “make amends” for his misbehavior. Ravenel also said he wouldn’t be granting any media interviews anytime soon, but that he did look forward to talking to the press about his experiences when the time was right.

BTW, sic(k) willie, thanks again for working on Ravenels’ campaign and getting a cocaine user elected to a S.C. Constitutional office. That’s got to be another great addition to your resume.

You’re both embarrassments to S.C.

At least he admits it.

Interesting article today in Charleston’s Post and Courier suggesting that Tommy’s well-connected father “Cousin Arthur” was tipped off that SLED was after his son. Wish I had connections like that…maybe I could get a speeding ticket fixed.

Ravenel mulls starting sentence immediately

“Former S.C. Treasurer Thomas Ravenel is considering starting his 10-month federal prison sentence immediately instead of waiting five months as allowed Friday by a judge”

“In sentencing the pair Friday, Anderson ordered that they wouldn’t have to start their sentences for five months to allow the possibility of a further sentence reduction for their cooperation in an ongoing investigation”.
