New York Governor To Step Down Today
SPITZER TO RESIGN HIS OFFICE AFTER GETTING NAILED IN PROSTITUTION BUST
FITSNews – March 12, 2008 – New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer will officially resign this afternoon, the New York Times is reporting. Spitzer’s resignation, which comes in the wake stunning revelations about his involvement in a prostitution ring, is scheduled to speak to reporters this morning at 11:30 AM. From the Times story:
In the two days since news of Mr. Spitzer’s involvement in the prostitution ring surfaced, he has been engaged in an intense legal and family debate about whether to resign or, as aides said his wife was urging, to stay on. Mr. Spitzer did not emerge from his apartment at Fifth Avenue and 79th Street in Manhattan on Tuesday, as Albany remained roiled and riveted by the deepening crisis, and had not emerged on Wednesday morning.
Wait … his wife wants him to stay on? WTF? Of course in all fairness, we have been to the New York Governor’s Mansion a couple times and it is pretty choice as far as accomodations go. We probably wouldn’t want to give up those digs, either, but damn … we’re gonna go out on a limb and suggest Silda Spitzer probably wasn’t thinking clearly when she made that recommendation. Getting busted cheating on your wife is one thing, getting busted breaking the law with a hooker is something else.
UPDATE – Spitzer has now officially resigned, effective Monday.
