TECHNO-DORKS REVOLT AT WORLD’S WORST INTERVIEW
FITSNews – March 10, 2008 – You know, we had our bags all packed to attend this weekend’s SXSWi convention in Austin, Texas before we took singer Dave Matthews’ advice and “remembered two things.” The first thing we remembered was that we have no idea what “SXSWi” is, other than it supposedly has something to do with computers. The second thing we remembered was that going to conventions about computer-related stuff is for people who don’t get laid. Which ain’t us.
Well, it turns out we probably should’ve gone to the convention anyway, if only to witness what appears to be the world’s worst media interview, with BusinessWeek reporter Sarah Lacy totally bombing in her attempt to have a Q&A session with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg:
The battle between Lacy and the audience began almost immediately. From the beginning of her interview with Zuckerberg, she repeatedly interrupted him, and all around me, I started to hear annoyed murmurs of people saying that she should stop doing so.
Later on, Zuckerberg himself seemed to get annoyed by Lacy’s style. As he was answering one of her questions, she began to talk over him, only to notice his reaction.
“I kind of cut you off,” she said. “You kind of had this hurt look, like, ‘I was talking.’”
Near me in the third row of the ballroom, someone said, “Is she serious?”
This is why it’s good to have an ironclad policy for when people interrupt you. Sort of like our policy here at FITSNews. The first time somebody interrupts us, we shoot them the “evil eye.” The second time, we use the “quart of blood” technique from Trading Places. And if all else fails, well, let’s just say we know people who run gulags … still. Of course we’ve never been interrupted, so we haven’t been forced to implement our policy yet. In fact, when we open our mouths, it’s a lot like watching an E.F. Hutton commercial, people.
