BUT SAYS HE’D RATHER MAKE OUT WITH OBAMA

FITSNews – March 7, 2008 – South Carolina Republican Gov. Mark Sanford officially became the last Republican on the planet to endorse John McCain’s presidential bid, saying he supported the Republican nominee’s unflinching support for the Colonial Army in their ongoing struggle against those damn Redcoats. Sanford also joined U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson in officially endorsing John Adams for Vice-President. From Palmetto Scoop:

How freaking lame. Not only does he lack the cajones to back his party’s nominee, but when at long-last he summons the “courage” to do so, he does it through a spokesman. Not himself, someone else. And not even a direct quote from the spokesman, just a pair of paraphrased statements.

We don’t want to speculate, but perhaps the reason Sanford waited so long to endorse McCain – and did so in such an underwhelming fashion – is his not-so-secret “man-crush” on Democratic frontrunner Barack Obama. Either that or he’s still debating whether or not to go with Geraldine Ferraro.

Here a few possibilities as to why Sanford waited as long as he did.

1.He dislikes Bush’s policies and knows McCain is just another Bush clone.

2. Sanford despises wasteful deficit spending and McCain was a party leader as the Republicans ran up the largest debt in U.S. history.

3. He does not support the Iraq War and cozzying up to the war mongering McCain hurts his political chances with the 70% of Americans who do not support the war.

4. He can smell the coffee and knows McCain will get clobbered in November.

If his psedo-endorsement is his Hail Mary attempt to be picked as McCain’s running mate, he didn’t get any love from The State today:
