CITY BECOMES THIRD MUNICIPALITY IN THEÂ SOUTH TO PASS ANTI-DISCRIMINATION STATUTE
FITSNews – March 7, 2008 – Yeah, please don’t ask us what we were doing reading 365gay.com this morning. We really don’t have a good explanation for that, except to say that a certain someone on our staff has yet to grasp the distinction between full-on lesbians and bi-curious sorority girls. Thus the steady e-mail barrage of … you know, nevermind.
According to the good folks at 365gay.com, though, the City of Columbia has officially become the third municipality in the Deep South to enact laws protecting gays and transgendereds from discrimination:
City Council voted unanimously to pass the ordinances prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity in housing and public accommodations.
“We have passed one of the most comprehensive bills in the country, in one of the most conservative states in the country,” said C. Ray Drew, Executive Director of South Carolina Equality, which pressed for the laws. “South Carolina, and states like ours, represents the front lines of our battle for LGBT civil rights in this country.â€
Columbia follows Atlanta and New Orleans as the only other “Deep South” cities to enact such protections.
We’re gonna go out on a limb here and guess that it’ll take the Palmetto Family Council about five seconds to blow a gasket over this, and about five minutes to find somebody willing to draft a state law that forbids any municipality from ever doing this again. We’re also gonna go out on a limb and guess that the S.C. Gay Community probably won’t embrace Sic Willie’s idea of putting Britney and Madonna on billboards all over the state with the headline ”Lesbians = Good” as a means of fighting for their rights.

OK look. I can handle the legislation. But wazzup wit this guy in the photo, I don’t care if he’s gay. I don’t care about the rose or the costume.
But this asshole’s got Yankz in his running shoes. Blasphemy!
Yankz without spandex is just way gay. OK. Somebody ought to pass a law.
btw I wonder if he got the pink frilly from Bits of Lace?

Was this city law drafted by the group of “lady lawyers” who meet at Nightcaps for Happy Hour on Tuesday nights?

Big Wallie,
Harriet Hancock is a straight ally of the gay, lesbian and trangender community of South Carolina. Although she’s not gay. , she’s been a leader in the gay rights movement since the 1980′s. Check out this New York Times Article from 1998 about her work: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9804EED7133EF934A35754C0A96E958260&scp=1&sq=harriet+hancock&st=nyt

Jeez…so we should treat people equally regardless of whether we personally agree with their lifestyle? Quick, someone in the legislature crush these yahoos before they start that crazy talk about respecting individual liberty and freedom. Gasp…they probably don’t even attend church!

The next thing you know, the Supreme Court will be open, honest and allow fair hearings with due process rights for attorneys…. that ain’t gonna happen. The dude in Sic Willie’s picture would have to be the Chief Justice first.

OK. I wansn’t attacaking the woman, but the Hancock name tied to this story is just too full of irony.

Hooray for the SC government protecting the freedom of it’s citizens instead of taking it away.

“CITY BECOMES THIRD MUNICIPALITY IN THE NATION TO PASS ANTI-DISCRIMINATION STATUTE”
Thanks for the post… Well worth reading, but I wanted to send you a note to say your headline here isn’t entirely accurate. Columbia is the third municipality in the Deep South to pass an anti-discrimination statute. There are plenty of cities nationwide which have done this.

Isn’t that R.J.? Yes! Those perky little pecs are obvious to his friends and family, now that he’s slimmed down some. Thank goodness the boy finally came out of the closet. He’s been holding all that stress inside so many years. Maybe now he and sic(k) willie will start dating again.
