THIS ESPN GUY JUST NAILED WHY WE’LL MISS BRETT FAVRE SO MUCH
FITSNews – March 5, 2008 – Anyone who’s followed this website for any length of time knows that we’re die-hard Indianapolis Colts fans here at FITSNews … but that doesn’t mean we don’t absolutely, positively, totally and completely love Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre. Of course, we could have sat around all day trying to express our undying admiration and affection for #4 on the occasion of his retirement from the NFL and still not nailed it the way ESPN’s Wright Thompson just did:
I’ll miss him turning Southern traits into something positive. Like Favre, I’m from Mississippi. Just that name carries horrible — and deserved — connotations. But Brett … The things we’ve always valued about ourselves, the toughness, the wildness, the exuberance, those things were suddenly treasured. Brett Favre made it cool to be from Mississippi. He seemed small town, and the rest of the NFL seemed anything but. It’s sprawling, corporate. It’s a cubicle. Brett Favre is a farm, and I think, deep down, we all miss our agrarian roots. If Tom Brady is what America is, then Favre is what America was and, sometimes, I think we wish we could have that America back.
Wow. We are totally crying right now. Godspeed, gunslinger. And thanks for the many, many amazing memories.

I’ve been a Packers fan all of my life, but I would’ve converted to Cheeseheaddom because of Farve. No, not because he was the true object of Cameron Diaz’s affections in “Something About Mary” (although that did make him even more awesome). It’s because he was simply the most awesome football player I’ve ever seen and without doubt one of the good guys. Thanks for the memories, No. 4!
