Nine Inch Nails Is Free
INDUSTRIAL ROCKERS FOLLOW RADIOHEAD WITH FREE ONLINE RELEASE OF LATEST ALBUM
FITSNews – March 3, 2008 – We’re pretty sure that the greatest concert we’ve ever seen was Nine Inch Nails (NIN) on the Self Destruct tour back in 1994. We say “pretty sure” because there may or may not have been some mushrooms involved.
Anyway, Trent Reznor and his drum machine have apparently joined British alt-rockers Radiohead in deciding to release NIN’s latest album for free on the Internet:
Freed from the tight constraints of music industry contracts, Trent has decided to go the Creative Commons route out of respect for the future of music-delivery: “Now that we’re no longer constrained by a record label, we’ve decided to personally upload Ghosts I, the first of the four volumes, to various torrent sites, because we believe BitTorrent is a revolutionary digital distribution method, and we believe in finding ways to utilize new technologies instead of fighting them.”
Whatever. All we know is that Trent Reznor is a complete and total badass, and if he’s doing something it automatically qualifies as a completely and totally badass thing to do. Seriously, he destroyed like 20 keyboards in one minute when we saw him in concert, and that was before he started kicking his bandmates, breaking their equipment and spitting on people. Plus, he stomped around the stage saying “f— this” and “f— that” a lot, too, which is always good times. Would we follow Trent Reznor off a cliff? Short answer – yes, mom. Particularly if somebody hooked us up with some choice caps.
The online music revolution is coming, people … and while we have no idea what that means, as long as Trent Reznor is still breaking stuff, count us in.
