TENNESSEE HAS THE NATION’S NO. 1 BASKETBALL TEAM AFTER VANQUISHING 26-0 MEMPHIS
FITSNews – February 24, 2008 – Move over Florida, the best basketball team in the nation no longer resides in Gainesville. Nor does it reside in Memphis, where the previously-undefeated Tigers fell 66-62 to the new kings of the college basketball world, the Tennessee Volunteers.
In perhaps the most-hyped college hoops game ever, Memphis’ run at perfection ended last night on a turnaround jump shot by Tennessee’s Tyler Smith with 28 seconds left, handing coach John Calipari’s Tigers their first loss of the season and capping a Rocky Top revival that has turned the NCAA, the SEC and the state of Tennessee on its ear.
In case you were wondering – which judging by the attendance at South Carolina home basketball games this year, you weren’t – South Carolina lost again yesterday. The Shamecocks, whose perpetually-underachieving basketball team heads to Knoxville March 9 to take its medicine, fell 61-56 in overtime to Mississippi State. The loss leaves USC with a disappointing 12-14 (4-8 SEC) record in what was supposed to be the team’s breakout season. Yeah, we heard that about our football team, too.
Geez, does it suck to be a Gamecock fan, or what?

The clock said 0:00, regulation time was over, and the Gamecocks had a 3 point advantage on the scoreboard. It is very difficult to lose under those circumstances and yet, the ‘cocks lost. Amazing. That is a special talent.
