dozing off

DOZING OFF COULD BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH

FITSNews – February 22, 2008 – In case you haven’t heard about our love-hate relationship with science, allow us to bring you up to speed. When science invents things like these, we love science. When science invents something like this, we hate science. So to recap, sometimes we want to buy science a beer and try to get it laid, other times we want to give it a wedgie and impale it on a flagpole.

Anyway, today is a “hate” day for science, as it’s telling us that daytime dozing increases the likelihood that we might have a stroke.

“Even when we controlled for things like hypertension, diabetes, physical activity, obesity and socioeconomic status, we found that people who had significant daytime dozing were much more likely to end up with stroke,” said Bernadette Boden-Albala of Columbia University in New York.

Just in case you’re lazy as hell (like us) and are looking for a silver lining that will enable you to continue “resting your eyes” at work, here it is … all the subjects this Bernadette Boden-Albala person researched were friggin’ geezers with one foot pretty much in the grave already. No kidding, the average age of the survey participants was seventy-three, which is old as hell - unless of course you’re running for president. Another silver lining, as it turns out, is the thrill of trying to say Bernadette Boden-Albala five times really fast. Catch the tongue-twisting fever, people!
