WE’VE NEVER SEEN AN INVESTIGATIVE REPORT QUITE LIKE THIS ONE

FITSNews – February 19, 2008 – Since it’s generally acknowledged that Princess Di was the classiest dame ever to walk the planet, it’s only natural that people want to boast about having some sort of connection to her. Like, baking her wedding cake, for example. Which (amazingly) is the first thing that came to our minds, too. Honest!

Anyway, what’s a little unnatural is that the St. Petersburg Times has devoted like eleventy kabillion column inches on an investigative piece which – among other hard-hitting revelations – debunks Celebrity Chef Robert Irvine’s claim to have baked Di’s wedding cake.

Irvine claims in his book to have worked on the wedding cake for Prince Charles and Princess Diana, a claim he repeated to a number of locals.

“It was an English fruitcake that weighed over 360 pounds,” he told the Toronto Sun. “I worked on these elaborate side panels, which told the history of the royal Windsor and Spencer families – in icing!” True? “I was at the school when that was happening,” he said. “They made the cake at the school where I was.” Did he help make it? “Picking fruit and things like that.”

Well hell, this might as well be the new crime of the century, people. Seriously, in the bare knuckle world of celebrity cake baking, street cred isn’t easy to come by, and those who play fast and loose with the Grandmammy of all cakes betta check themselves, yo. And while we’re at it, God bless the St. Petersburg Times. The world is truly a much safer place thanks to their pioneering journalism.
