But Can We Read His Lips?
“NO NEW TAXES” SAYS GOP’S McCANGRY
FITSNews - February 17, 2008 - We’re pleased that presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain has correctly diagnosed the problem with his party (editor’s note: it’s spending). We’re also pleased that McCain is doing something about it, specifically promising “no new taxes” if he’s elected come November.
That’s all well and good. In fact, if McCain were here right now we’d give him a lollipop. Maybe even a kiss on the lips if we’d had enough to drink. But what about the taxes that we already pay? And what about deficit spending - which doesn’t require new taxes to continue draining Americans of their hard-earned money?
To his credit, McCain also talked today about the $35 billion worth of special projects signed by President Shrub over the last two years, saying that money could’ve been used to provide a $1,000 tax credit for every child in America. Now that’s more along the lines of what we like to hear, but McCain didn’t say that was something he was actually going to do - he just used it as a hypothetical.
Bottom line, we’ve heard “no new taxes” before. We also heard a bunch of crap about “restoring honor and dignity to the White House.” And screw all that, people. We don’t particularly care what you promise, nor do we particularly care if you’re honorable or dignified, just cut some taxes and stop blowing so much of our damn money …

According to those pesky libertarians, defense and war spending is what’s swelling the size of government more than anything else. As they say, McCain is reducing the size of the government, 150,000 new U.S. soldiers at a time.
